B&M short shifter Install and Tranny Flush Questions.

Bsed on many recommendations i have recently purchased a B&M short throw shifter and also 5 Quarts of Redline MT90 tranny fluid. I am going to be installing the short shifter and flushing the tranny fluid tomorrow i was wondering if there were any tips that any of the members would like to give me to make this install easier.
I have read that is better to remove the cat and heat shield for the shifter install is this true? do i need to grease the B&M shifter prior to install?

also i have read in the fluids and lubricants forums that this proceedure is all that there is to chaing tranny fluid. can i be safe to assume if i follow there instructions that everything will go easily?
4.5 qts is all the tranny should need ?

thanks guys for any tips that could make this go smoother. i think my 99 with 107k could use this tranny flush. and i know i could use this short shifter.

I put a B&M in mine about a week ago. Install is pretty straightforward.
I disconnected the cat at the inlet and unhooked the rubber hanger on the b-pipe. Lay the exhaust down on the floor being careful not to put tension on your rear O2 sensor wire. I removed two or three bolts on the front section of the heat shield and then loosened the one where it overlaps the rear section of the heatshield. At this point you can just rotate the front half of the heat shield out of the way which exposes the entire bottom section of the gear selector assembly. The rest is just a straightforward re and re old shifter for new.
No need to lubricate the new shifter. It comes with oil impregnated bushings at all points of contact.
Enjoy your new shifter.

thanks for the info. my 99 has no rear O2 sensor after the cat which has always confused me. i don't own snap ring pliers like recommended in the instructions manual is there another way i can attach that ring?

Buy the pliers -- you'll use them again, and who doesn't like getting new tools?

yeah you need those things. it is freakin' hard without them. i love my shifter, but to be honest i really dont remember what it was like with the stock one anymore. i am just so used to this one now. i think i need to drive a car with a stock one again to appreciate what i have. anyways, you wont regret buying it.

Yes I would definitely buy a set of snapring pliers.
You do not really need a special filler to refill the tranny. I just connected a lengh of clear plastic tubing to the end of a funnel and poured it in from up above.
