Bad Gas Milage?

The MPG has been 18-20 lately. I live in the NYC so it's a mixture of both highway and city driving. I'm assuming it could be the following:
1) Gas filter needs to be changed
2) Fuel injection could be clogged. What should i do, buy a fuel injection cleaner or go to the mechanic.
3) changed the spark plugs to NGK. They were changed 6 months ago.
4) bad oxygen sensor?
5)Its not the tires. The air pressue is correct.
Please help. I just got a new job that requires driving. The better the gas milage, the more money i save in gas.
thanks,
MAXJOEY

18-20MPG isn't too bad. I get around the same mileage on 50/50 highway/city driving, using 92 octane Chevron gas. I recently had my fuel filter and plugs changed and it didn't make a difference. I also added a bottle of Techron concentrate and mileage didn't improve either.

Bad mpg also!
I have been experiencing poor mpg (18-20) too and my driving is probably 50/50 too. Just had my fuel filter changed and the throttle body cleaned. Still getting poor gas mileage.
I think the auto tranny is the culprit.
Are all of you (who are getting bad mpg and have a similar driving environment) driving auto trannys?

18-20? I WISH!
I get around 12! mixed highway + city, mostly highway... I'm in NYC too and I go from Staten island to Brooklyn and back everyday.... I fill up nearly every 3 days... 180 miles on a full tank.
In my quest to find the cause I:
Replaced fuel filter
replaced spark plugs with NGKs
replaced O2 sensor
replaced air filter
ran fuel system/injector cleaner through the system twice
ran ECU self diagnosis a few times ( came up clean code: 55 )
checked MAF
checked Engine coolant Temperature sensor
just recently I checked the Fuel pressure regulator and I got shady responses, the pressure at idle did not change as it was supposed to when engine is off/ignition is on... I'll go ahead and replace the FPR,
I also failed my Emissions test, the car is running too rich, I think my Catalytic Coverter is ****ed anyways, car runs like ****.
It can also be the fuel injectors, I sure hope it's not though, that will cost me $$$$$$$

Re: 18-20? I WISH!
All you guys getting low fuel economy in NYC, Nissan says we're supposed to get around 21mpg in the city but you know they didn't do the test in NYC. There is mucn more stop and go and long idles in traffic that have to be accounted for too. When I have to sit in long durations of traffic in the city, I'll shift to neutral. This will help a little.

Re: Bad mpg also!
yep, I drive an automagic
21 MPG in the city is ridiculous in my opinion. I barely get that on the highway! I think the reason why I get such horrible city mileage is because I do most of my city driving in San Francisco, where every street is a hill.

22 MPG here in Boston
I just filled up yesterday and I'm averaging just around 22 MPG. It was my second tank since my Stillen Intake & Cattman Y installation and I think it's going to get better since I'm not gunning it all the time. Since I have a 5-speed, your low MPG could be related to the auto tranny.

28 miles/gallon?!!?
Have a 96 GLE, 5Speed,52K miles and recently changed the air filter and started noting down the gas mileage. It came out to be 28 miles/gallon. This is average of 4 tank fills.
Mainly city driving. Do you think, it has a problem somewhere or is this figure believable??
comments?

A lot of the so called "city"-driving you guys do in your cities is just like highway driving in NYC
NYC driving consists of a red light on every block, (streets are lined up like a grid) there is like a gazillion intersections, always a few morons double parking, busses and trucks everywhere, idiot drivers which cause you to slam the brakes. Traffic stays relatively low speeds. I was in Jersey a while ago, and my cousins 4Runner gets about 18 miles per gallon, in what he calls mixed city and highway driving. STILL, taking in account that my car IS 8 years old, does have 102k miles on it and I do drive in NYC, I should still expect a little more then 180 miles on a full tank of gas, that's enough for 3 days.. I compare my gas economy to other people with V6's who travel the same path I take and get more (95 Chevy Lumina, 87 Mercury Sable, 2k Bonneville, 99 Accord) I'm ****ING ****ED!!!!!
hey paracha, your sig says 5 spd GLE? i think that's a mistake, cus it's not possible... just thought i'd mention that
