Is transmission flush dangerous for 1997 maxima?

I just bought a 1997 maxima GXE with high millage 158k.
The mechanics suggested me to do a transmission flush.
But some friends told me that it's kind of dangerous
to do a flush of maxima transimission.
Would you give me some advice?

This is a very touchy topic....

How is your transmission running? If it aint broke dont fix it.

Some people have problems at high mileage when they flush their transmissions because when the clutch packs shred, the gunk floats around with the oil. It ends up helping the transmission shift.

I feel no problem with the transmission right now.
Just the mechanics said the transmission oil is like burnt out and never been flushed.
I just bought this car a week ago and I think maybe I'd better have it flushed if no big potential danger.

even with that many miles on my tranny my fluid was clean just a small amount of dirt or very small metal shavings trap on filter screen and on magnets wich make me think the previous owner took good care of the car maybe your tranny needs to be check for unusual wear

at my work we have a transmission flush machine, and when we have a car with higher mileage on it. we hook the machine up to it and run through every gear and as long as the pressure never drops to 0 psi we do the flush. we charge $70. just my 2 cents.

My car had 180000miles when I changed the transmission oil.. and believe it or not it was the same oil since 30000miles in it. Well... I could hear a high pitched noise on the highway and the 2nd gear synchro would clash on cold mornings before the change. I used Amsoil 2000 in it and both symptoms were gone. So do as you wish, but for me it was a great move !

I have a 97 Max with only 43k miles. I never had a transmission flush, but only changed the transmission oil and filter once. I have no problem with the tranny.

If you don't know the history of how the tranny was serviced I would not do it. Just do a drain and fill.

My frekin auto tranny is slipping or something, (even though I havent drove my car in 2 months cause im In china) I swaped out the fluid and went to the trax to try it out again, only improved by.1
before swap fluid 15.9
after 15.8
My car should be running low 15's or high 14's with the mods I have, sometimes i can feel that **** slipping, WORST, thats why when I come back Im swapping it out with a stick and someother weird shiet ill talk about later.
O yeah i only have 60k on it
