p1400 egrc solenoid valve

I'm trying to remove this component for testing, as I got p1400. The harness gets voltage, but terminal 1 doesn't make it back to the ecu harness. Before I repair the harness, I wanted to test out the egrc.

The problem is, the nut is on the bottom side, where you can't see it. I can get a closed end wrench on it, but can't get enough torque to loosen it. Is there another way?

Thanx!

alright, I got it off. I used the same technique as I used for the knock sensor.

Here's the diagnostic. If you blow into the gold nipple on the side, the medial black tube should feel air, and not the lateral one

supply 12 volts and blow again, the lateral one should feel air.

If you're looking at the harness, the right terminal and ground should be 12v. The left terminal should go back to terminal 103 on the ecu harness. If the harness is plugged into the ecu, 103 is top row, 3rd from left, the blue/black wire.

Well have you figured out what's wrong yet?
What are the results of your diagnostics?

Yeah, everything checked out ok. The solenoid was working, and I had continuity and power. So I'm gonna assume the harness was loose. I really dunno.

sorry to bring back an old thread. i got a 1005 CEL, replaced the EGRC solenoid valve and the light came back on later.

did you resolve your issue? i wonder what else could be the problem.

And I'd be interested if anyone knows which is which in the picture. I THINK the one closest to the camera is the MAP/BARO switch solenoid. I'm getting a code for that (13 02). The FSM (and Haynes and Chilton) don't really show which one it is, but the front one is connected to the MAP sensor, so I think that's the one...

Yes, its the valve mounted lower than the other two with a green plastic shroud around the electrical connector.

I am getting both power and continuity to the ECM on terminal 2. I cannot figure why this should happen. I should be getting continuity to terminal 1 and power to terminal 2. Any ideas?

Haha! I agree for the near half decade bump. Well.... Now that it's opened up, I wanted to know if anybody has any real concrete advice on how to replace both the effing Absolute pressure sensor (code P0105) and EGRC Solenoid Valve (code P1400) and I have swapped out both of them from used maxima's at the junkyard (not relying my confidence in them or anything, but just thought I'd give them a try) and it hasn't worked. So.. I don't know what's the correct way of testing them using the battery and a tester, so if I could get some feedback on how to do it, in an almost step by step sequence, that'd be greatly appreciated! And adding just one thing to that, do I need to check the hoses and harness connectors? If so, what's the best method of tracing my way back to those sources? Thanks. I know it's alot to take in, but it's the only two codes I'm getting, and I'm sick of not being able to pass my smog!!!

Thank you again. Really!

SBK: Do you have a factory service manual? You can find them in the forums, in pdf format. It has step by step instructions that you seek.

Dr. J. I do. I happened to find it on the org and downloaded the ECM part of it. It looks very thorough if only it was labeled with some color. I think all I'm still slightly confused about is the position of which is which. The two are side by side but I know that one is closer to the engine block and the other to the battery side. So looking from the front of the car, which is the left one and which is the right one? At this point I think I mixed up both of them and could be the reason why it has still been giving me codes. Illl try the FSM and retrace my steps back. Thanks!

Oh, I thought you were asking how to tests the components. The egrc can be seen in the pics here, the green harness

Does that help?

The absolute pressure sensor is, I think, the yellow circled. I don't have a fsm at the moment, but if you're still having issues, I'll dl one and verify for you.

Wait, now that I think about it, there's another pressure sensor near the front of the car

Alright. So I saw which is definitely now the EGRC solenoid valve and I'm gonna get right on that. I was just going over the FSM and saw that the Absolute Pressure Sensor is a 2 piece process? It has the one that you mentioned with the yellow circle and also the one that looks identical to the EGRC valve. Gosh. Being that I don't have a vaccuum, is it safe for me to just base my answers on the ohm/voltmeter and visually checking the harnesses and vaccuum hoses? This may sound dumb, but I was just a bit paranoid about being electrocuted by doing the process using the battery which is why I wanted some expert advice first. But it looks safe! So, I will try that over this weekend! Thanks again Dr. J.

If I have any further inquiries I'll post them up here, but as of now I seem good. Thank you, and have a great Thanksgiving Weekend!

You kno, in place of a vacuum pump, I just sucked on the nipples. True story, I'm serious. I'd have 1 nipple on my lip, suck, and wire up some voltage to the battery to see if it worked. Yes, I was scared, yes, that was dumb, but it worked.

Oh yeah, in retrospect, after I was done, I was thinking, 'why did i suck? i coulda inhaled something, i shoulda blown!'

I have a 97 maxima 150000 miles. I got the EGR guide tube cleaned after P0400. Now I am getting P1400. The air passage of the EGRC solenoid is normal using the battery and can hear the clicking noise when apply the battery voltage. However, the control voltage to the solenoid is always at 12v.

1) Is this normal?
2) What could cause the control voltage to stay high all the time?

Sorry for resurrecting this thread again.

First of all let me say that I have no clue at all regarding cars. My check engine light recently came on and I had my dad's friend check it out(he's an at-home mechanic but has no idea how to fix this problem).

The error code that showed up is P1400. According to this thread, I need to replace the EGR solenoid valve? Is that the root of the check engine light or is there another probable cause? The only issue I have with my car is that I sometimes smell the gas as I'm driving.

Thank You.
