Quote: My dad drove my car into the ground everyday going to work and therefore ruined the tranny after 110K miles. It is the second vehicle he has ruined the tranny for so it was probably just his driving and not the car.
Finally someone from Colorado...few of my friends go to CSU...we should meet sometime.

the needle bearing went at 83,000 this piece isnt really sh!# but the particles started messing up the rest of the tranny. went to SAL's in Brooklyn. Mike hooked me up good.It cost me my A$$ and my elbow but I walked out with an edumacation on trannies as well. ONE BIG recomendation for heavy trafic& snow or just because HAYDEN TRANNIE COOLER it will save your trannie from cooking. Most maxima's the engine is too powerful for the trannie.Mikes gonna do my valvebody calibration update in May either stage 3 or 4 depends on how many mods I can get done between now and then

Factory 1 went out at 36k miles. 1k miles after the 35k mile warranty. Nissan payed for the tranny and we just payed for the labor.. Still was about 900 bucks tho. This was in 95 when we first got it (my moms car @ the time).

Now the odo is at 125~k miles so its about 70ish on the tranny and 125 on the motor....still running strong...

157k and starting to act strange. I put it in drive on morning, hit the gas, and the car just revved. At like 3k rpm it took off. My car's starting to neutral drop itself. Time for a 5-speed?

Caracicatriz, it sounds like you're experiencing slippage, the end may be near. Start looking for another trans ASAP. In the meantime, try changing your fluid.

Yo by the way I was out at State College this weekend visiting some friends, had to drive home in that snow on Sunday...what year/major are you at PSU?

Good luck!

You officially broke 300,000 on an A32 Maxima/I30? That's awesome man. How's she running now?

I just did a auto trans fluid & filter change this weekend at 205,635. I probably didn't even need it, the fluid was as red as a cherry and the screen was clean. Peace of mind though.

138k and still going, manual 5 spd. Am I supposed to change the fluid, I better look into that. Does a manual tranny have fluid other than the hydro. clutch fluid?

My '97 Auto has 126K miles. Fourth gear slips until the engine is warmed up in the morning. In the afternoon it seems to lockup right away. Does this mean it's on its way out?

165k miles and still going strong. I drain/refill my fluid (~5qts Mobil1 syn) every 6k or 9k miles. If I have a problem its this: When ever I floor it (Not realy WOT but maybe half way) It take about 2 sec before it downshifts.... Unfortunatly I cant remember it this is how it was before. How long does it take your max to downshift into 2nd gear when you wanna pass someone?

Manual tranny fluids
Quote: Am I supposed to change the fluid... Does a manual tranny have fluid other than the hydro. clutch fluid?
You don't have to change the clutch fluid, it doesn't circulate in the tranny. But manual trannys have fluid in the case just like autos. You are supposed to change it every 60k I think, don't have the owner's manual handy. If you put synthetic in, you really don't ever need to change it.
