neutral safety switch

neutral safety switch

Has anyone had to replace their neutral safety swtich? If so how hard was it>?

I had to replace mine when I tried to take it out to change the o-ring. The switch is located on the bottom of the transmission facing the drivers side. Its held in by one screw. I tried prying it out and the cracked the plastic. I bought a new one at Advance Auto Parts for $30-40. Its very easy to do, just push it in, put in the one screw and plug in the wire at the top of the transmission near the starter.

Interesting the code its throwing is p1706 which is the park/neutral position (PNP) switch
is that the same thing as the neutral safety switch sounds like it to me.

I think it is the same thing, I know its also called the back up light/neutral switch.

Yes, it is. I got it at the dealer for 27 bucks.

bump.. the link doesnt work, and the pics don't show up.. can anyone post pics of where this sensor is located and what it looks like?

You bumped a 5 year old thread for this? You are aware that this doesn't even apply to your car, correct?

If you're referring to the neutral position switch, it's on the side of the shift tower.
