2 Questions about drop....help

Are KYB-GR2's worth getting? Planning on going with either Intrax or Progress Springs and i hear GR2's are OEM replacements. Yet, some ppl argue that those with AGX stay in the middle setting anyway which are exactly like GR2's. Is it dangerous to mix springs (Have 1 pair up front and a different pair in the back)?

KYB GR2 are great for what you pay for them ($230) shipped. I have them with H&R springs and 17" wheels and ride is frim and controlled but not stiff and bouncy.

I've had Sprints with KYB AGX and ride sucked , than H&R with KYB AGX rode bit better but still rough., than Tokico Blue up front with AGX in rear on H&R springs - still not happy, than Tokico blue in front with stock SE shock in rear on H&R -still not right, than Tokico blue up front with SE shock in rear on Stock SE springs - ride was great but the wheel gap..... All of the above with stoc SE 16" rim

Finally GR2 with H&R - on 225/45/R17 best set up ever - i'm done messing with this car suspension.

and no , GR2 are nowhere near stock , Tokico Blues are.

Nick.

Did the H&R's get rid of the 4x4 look? thats one of my biggest concerns.

Does anyone know the best spring to go with GR2's, that are somewhat comfortable but will get rid of the gap?

they'll probably blow, if you want the SLAMMED look, H&R wont do that for ya. BUT if you want a finished sporty sedan look. that performs - go with the H&R's and KYB-GR2's, i reaserched for MONTHS before i decided on this setup and I couldnt be happier my friend.

I have sprints with AGXs and the ride isnt to bad. I enjoy the ride actually. The look is awesome, BUT!! i had to cut 1 coil in the rear. But if i would do it all over i wouldnt buy springs. Its just worth it to save the money and buy some JIC's, D2s, or Tein Basics. JICs are the most expensive but also the best known. D2s are pretty new for the maximas but well known in the race world. Tiens are the cheapest out of the 3 for adjustablity reasons. Sprints cost me 175, AGXs ran about 400 with a group deal. About 600$ total. So save up an extra 200$ and have a suspension system that will last a long time and is the best. Check out http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaHandling for anything you need. If you dont want coilovers then i would go with AGX with either Sprints or Tien S springs, Depending on what kind of drop you want. Ill post some more when i get home, im in class.

I've heard that newer H&R's make the car appear lower in the front & higher in the rear. I don't like the sagged look in the rear as I've seen with some H&R sprung cars, presumably using the older version of the H&R. Any info or truth to such?

According the a link on H&R measurements above, the front has 2.5" gap from fenderwell to tire, while the rear is only 2". Seems it would have a saggy tailend. If it makes a difference, I have a '98 Max w/ an auto tranny.

My main goal is to provide a finished look to the car, without slamming it. If there are suggestions on other springs that will do the same, or give the desired look explained above, please comment. I definitely will go with illuminas, now it's just a matter of deciding upon springs.

mixing springs is not bad. You just need to understand what happens to a cars characteristics when the spring rates change. Stiffer rear means more oversteer, stiffer front means more understeer.

Intrax have a lower looking rear gap than the front. Front drop is same as Eibachs.
Eibachs are dead even wheel gap.
Tokico kit is almost dead even, very similar to Eibachs but a hair lower.
Old H&R have a lower rear gap. New ones I have not seen.
Sprints have a high rear gap.
Tien H-Techs are pretty even.
Tien S-Techs are similar to sprints.
Progress look lower in the rear, but close to even gaps.
Maxspeeds, Arospeed, and any other cheep spring is not worth buying.

GR-2 work well especially for the price. I am on Intrax and AGX right now and the struts are 2f/4r. Its a bit rough, rear bottoms out and the fronts are fine. Eibachs are much better overall, and IMO the best spring on the market. (I have them too and I love the ride and handling) One thing to note is KYB's are rough....no way around it. I would get AGX over GR-2 anyday, but I should have bought Illuminas or Konis.

how do you know if a strut is blown or bad? I pushed down on them and 1 of them has trouble coming back up. What does that mean?

save up...and get good struts like tokico illuminas....the KYB GR-2's are crap...I know, I have them with eibach springs....ride is horrible and is kinda bouncy....I would think the GR-2's would be better with a softer spring like H&R's...

That drop looks really good. I'e seen that in person and it doesn't look as low. But i heard the eibachs are too stiff for GR2's. What do you guys think about the tokico springs?

Suspension is a matter of preference and money. If you want it slammed get coilovers, no question.

could i put coilover springs on the GR2's. Just not be an idiot and put them too low to blow the shocks? Like would ground controls work?

You can but not a good ride when slammed, cant go too low, coilovers are stiff so you wont get a great ride really. From an owner of Coil overs and GR-2's.....THEY SUCK!

You mean to tell me you paired GR2s with GCs...

Of course its gona suck dude...i have AGX on the stiffest settings all around and its STILL under-dampened.

I cant even imagine what the 500 pound spring rate of the Ground Controls would do to a pair of GR2s...OMFG, did they last you 24 hours?

Ground controls are actually not bad, they are insanely stiff, but the performance is great. it completely transforms the max, but most would think its too stiff, but people like ME, would say that they out perform alot of setups FOR THE PRICE that is..

if you got the money get full coilovers, if you wana slam and give up a lil comfort for better looks and handling...get Ground Controls.

Everyone talks smack on the Ground Controls, but in reality they aint THAT bad.

Just make sure you pair them up with KONI YELLOWS ONLY! i have them on my AGX and i kinda hate it lol... it is SLIGHTLY underdampened, and im not even slammed...
