car won't start after messing with speed sensor
hey all --
my friend and i were installing navigation systems in our maximas; my friend went and tried to install the speed sensing wire to the back of the instrument panel.
the navigation system diagnostics initially said the speed sensor was functioning ok, but then we drove around the block to test the navi system.
about 10 minutes into the drive, we stopped and turned off the car to restart the navi system. after that, the car wouldnt start.
we checked for ecu codes and got 1401 and 1402 codes, but there is no listing for those numbers. we also saw a 1102, but it only happened once; it only repeats 1401 and 1402.
have any of you seen this or have any idea of what we messed up?
thanks in advance...

I would try a few things before towing:
1. Close all doors and lock with remote (if possible). If remote lock is not possible, lock them manually. Then unlock only the passenger front door with the key.
2. Unhook battery cables for 12 hours or more.
3. Reset ECU if unable to connect battery cables (see FAQs for procedure).
My car locked me out, and the dome light would flash at me when I tried to start. I assumed that the immobilizer had kicked on. After mixing and matching the above-mentioned procedures, I was able to start the car the next morning.

thanks guys --
it turns out that it was the immobilizer. the dealership said too many repeated starts/stops with the key can cause the security to kick in.
my friend is battling the dealership on this issue. he got charged $180 (somethere around that price) to get the keys/system re-synced. it isnt right that the system should/could lock you out when you have a legitimate key.
thanks again for your replies,
