First off, I've been lurking in this forum for a while and found a lot of great information that has saved me literally thousands of dollars!

I have a question on changing the front brakes. I've inspected the rotors and to me they look like they are ok. There are no cracks, deep scores or significant rust, when I turn the rotor it seems true, as true as you can tell with the naked eye. While I was doing this my father in law stoped by and gave me some of his wisdom(lol!). He insisted that the rotors needed to be turned or replaced whenever you do a front brake job. I've done brakes on lots of different cars over the years and I never turn rotors only replace them if needed. Anyway he put some doubt in my mind and I would like to get the consensus of the group. Should I replace the rotors, or if they look fine should I forget it?

Nah man, replace the factory ones, you get better feel and control with a thicker front disk and a smooth stop with a braking improvement. I just gave another tread this name from EBAY best deal I found and trustworthy. look this guy up-"sportbrakescom" he has a deal for all 4 rotors for $198 and $23 shipping. I bought them and WOW its a diffrent feel. hope this helps.

you can always have a shop cut the rotors for you, if they are still thick enough.

 

Go to any machine shop with the rotors in hand. For around $8-10 a rotor usually they'll resurface them for you, assuming they're in decent shape and thickness is good.

I believe AutoZone does this....but I'm not totally sure.
