What exactly is clutch "slipping"

I think my clutch is slipping, but without a definite definition of slipping I'm not sure.. When I start the car, the car revs to 1.5k, I think that's normal.

My clutch's friction point is really far, is that normal for maximas? Other than this, I don't think anythgin else is abnormal. I was doing a hard launch yesterday, and the check engine came on for like 2 seconds, then went off and never saw it again.

Is my clutch slipping?

Thanks,
Dan

your clutch slips when you are in gear, say 3rd or 4th and you floor it and you see the rpms go up, but the car doesn't accelerate.. thats when the cluch slips.

This is what happens when your clutch slips on slicks from a bad launch.

I got the Stage 1 Pressure Plate.

Turns out the ACT alone was too agressive and warped my aluminum flywheel. I wanted soemthing that would do 2 things:

1) Slip ever so slightly on engagement to prevent torque shock to the tranny.
2) not warp my flywheel.

This is the same setup that MardiGrasMax uses on his setup, and he launches at 6k RPM at the track with no issues. (Mardi ran an 11.9 on his SC, and is now even faster with his new Turbo).

Beautiful clutch.
Pretty agressive, but you get used to it.

Here's is the Pressure Plate:

Well, really it's "Don't buy ACT if you're over 300hp and have a lightened flywheel."

Many people have them NA and mildly boosted and have no issues. Many people have had issues as well. It depends on who you tlak to.

My opinion - from my experience - they suck.

My clutch slips, and just as iansw noted, it is obvious.

I get in 3rd, 4th, or 5th and depress the accellerator and I get an RPM build, no accelleration, then it catches, I get a brief lurch, and then it repeats. I also have no "pull" in nearly any gear. 3000 RPM and above I am basically dead in the water. I do ALL granny shifting until this weekend when I get the new clutch.

Hey Ian, how does clutch engagement feel from a standstill compared to the ACT?
