a.) Are there different "Maxima" emblems/logos on different 4th gens?

b) How come some 4th gens say what model the Max is, but others do not? Come to think of it, I know I've seen GLE, but I'm not sure about seeing SE or GXE.

Right about the MAXIMA/M A X I M A thing.
I believe it was '98 when they started with the trim level badging. GXEs weren't badged, but I have seen a few SE badges. GLE badges are common.

I thought I saw the GLE on a '95-'96, and my '98 SE has nothing but the MAXIMA and the burger on the back.

it is

usually a dealer option.

I have seen 97+ with the badges, but its not consistent. Not all GLEs have the GLE badging, nor the SEs

I believe the SE badging started with the 5th generation...I've seen some 4th gen MAX's with the SE badge but I'm pretty sure they put it on themselves...
there's no GXE badging and the GLE badging started with the 97's.

If the Maxima still has their stock rims/wheels, you can sorta tell what the trim level is.

My 99 had the "swirl" wheels, which are also found on the 95-96 SE.

Hope this helps.

95-96 GLE had a silver sticker badge-like thingy under the right side tail light. I've seen a few maximas like that, but I am not sure is it a dealer thing or not.

For 97-99 models, there's "ES" or "GLE" badge on top of the right tail lights. By the way, ES stands for European Sports Edition sold in Canada.
