I just lowered my car and also ordered some Camber Bolts and are suppose to go somewhere in the front to give it an extra -1 to +1 degree camber. Where do I install these bolts? And how do you use it? Somebody help please!

The special camber bolts replace the factory bolts which fasten the lower part of the strut to the steering knuckle. For a photo, see Chilton (figure 9, page 8-7) or Haynes (figure 2.3, page 10-5). Installation of camber bolts permit adjustment of camber, an alignment angle which is not adjustable in a stock Maxima. Since you will need an alignment immediately after installing the camber bolts, it might be just as well to let your alignment man install them.

You can also give your Maxima the ability to adjust camber by installing camber plates. These provide a means for lateral adjustment of the top of the struts. Stillen sells them, and perhaps other vendors do too. Camber plates cost much more than camber bolts.

When I installed my suspension I had purchased a set of Camber bolts from tirerack.com. The instructions said "replace the 12mm suspension bolt(s) with the new camber bolts". Yet the bolt that you are refering too was much larger than the 12mm that came in the package.

Safe to assume that I got a kit for the wrong car?

BTW - I had my camber checked after the install and its fine.

Check with the vendor. It's not clear what they meant by 12mm. 12mm head, or 12mm diameter shaft?

The 2 bolts that attach the steering knuckle/strut are 14mm in diameter. I replaced mine with 1/2inch bolts ($5) rather than spend 30 dollars. Works for me.

I asked the same question. The instructions where very vague. I know that the camber bolts where quite a bit smaller than the bottom bolt that you refered to before.

What's the worst thing that could happen if you don't install camber bolts. I ordered sprint ones and it was much smaller than the stock ones so I didn't install it. It didn't fit right.

This reply is in the "I think" category, not the "I know" category.

Camber bolts have a smaller shaft than the factory bolts. That's the whole point of having them. The smaller diameter bolt allows the strut to be adjusted to an angle different from the factory angle.

I can't tell you "the worst thing that could happen". I don't know how far off-spec your camber is. Wrong camber is likely to cause rapid tire wear on one edge of the tire.

For those of you that are still confused about how the camber bolt works, I finally found out and I'll try to explain. With the factory bolts, you don't get any type of adjustment when both bolts are tightened. At least I think. Well with the camber bolts, they are suppose to be smaller than the factory bolts but should have a small bump in the middle. Because they are smaller, you can turn the bolt to different directions and have the small bump point different ways to give enough adjustment for a +1 to -1 degree camber adjustment. Hope yall understand what I mean.
