hard engine start and change of engine control model (ECM)

Maxima 95, 90,00 miles has been hard cranking problems for the last 2 months. It does it randomly, sometimes needs 3-4 times to crank to get started. No relationship to the engine temperature or to the distance I drive.
No warning light came on. A Nissan dealer checked the car first time saying that the alternator gives a low voltage. I measured voltage (14.7 V) and did not think that a reason. Then I went to the same dealer for the second time wanted to check engine codes. They told me that the engine control module (ECM) is faulty reffering to the bulletine EC95-015 http://www.jatan.net/tsbs/044578.pdf.
Should I trust them and change the ECM?

Hey Max95. I see your from Ames, IA. I goto school here at ISU. Anyways, i'm having the same problem as you as well. I've had this problem for the past 5 months and counting. The car just sits and cranks and finally fires up after awhile. My situation has gotten worse, it takes about 8 cranks and repeated attempts to start it. I've been to both the Des Moines Dealership and the one in Ames. I would not have them change the ECM. The dealership charges I believe $800 for a new one. It is most likely not the cause of your starting problem, but if you want to be sure, just buy a used ECM from car-parts.com for around $100. I've changed/checked alot of things on the car myself, for example, crank/camshaft sensors, injectors, alternator, battery, starter etc. The dealership now says that the teeths on my flywheel are bent and not engaging the starter well. So thats my next step. Goodluck with your car, maybe i'll see you driving around.
