Have you driven standard for a long time? If not then you just might not be pushin in the clutch all the way and im not tryin to be funny but I know on my Jeep when I first started I use to do it.Originally Posted by Blue96Max

How many miles are on the tranny? It sounds like a worn out synchro (i think they are brass on the maxima). Has the car had alot of differnt drivers? Sometimes that wears out synchros faster. Also how much freeplay do you have in your clutch pedal? Your soposed to have an inch of freeplay before you feel resistance in the clutch pedal. Also check your slave cylinder make sure the fluid is full

Synchros dont cost much but getting to them (removing and disassembling transmission) does. They are replaced as part of a transmission rebuild.Originally Posted by Blue96Max
how much is a synchro ?

Probably not a slave cylinder issue. If it is not leaking (you can tell if the master cylinder reservoir stays relatively full) then it is most likely a synchro problem.Originally Posted by Blue96Max
how about the slave cylinder ?

Im not 100%on this but your slave cylinder should be just in front or to the left of the master cylinder(looks like a small master). But if the clutch has alot of mi on it and the pedal has that much play you might just need a clutch
