daymn it i screwed up! tried to re-tint my tail but...!)(@*# any suggestion?

so my transparent test tint wore off after couple months....so i bought a can of VHT night shade and attempt to re-tint it. but i totally miscalculate it and it turned out too dark like this:

before:

after:

i don't really like it cuz it's way too dark during the day. i wouldn't mind at night...but i'm thinking just going back to stock tails and red-out the amber part. the problem is...VHT night shade's coating is unremovable. what do you guys think i should do?

Don't use Goof-Off to clean off the paint. It'll melt the plastic.

You should remove the trunk key hole, do the AE headlight, black out the door handles, and get black rims.. so that your car will be in a "stealth" mode..

But on the serious side of note: I think it looks fine. The only thing I'd be worried about are the cops busting you for having those tails..

Wet sand the lights with 600 grit paper to get the paint off. Works like a charm.

Then work your way up to 1500 grit or so and then you will be able to polish them out.

Do the brake lights shine through?
You could sell those on here or ebay and buy another OEM set and start over.

Good luck with getting the shades off, it looked good like this:

I guess you were trying to go for something different, but IMO the tails look good the way you had them. Are you going to try to reapply the tint? If I were you I would leave the tails alone.

Elbow grease, terry cloth towel, finger nail polish remover (ie acetone) = removed. Acetone will not cloud the plastic. It takes quite a bit of rubbing to get the paint though. I've done this numerous times when changing my smoked lens setup.

mineral spirits works wonders with paint, along with some hard rubbin.

Hello everybody.

I got a problem as well. I had my bumper corner lights tinted, but I want to retint them and need to take off my paint as well. What I got from this post is not to use GooGone but instead try finger nail polish. Wont the nail polish harm plastic? Also, what should I use for rubbing off, paper towels? o.O thnkx

Personally, I'd tape off the top section and then wet sand the bottom half of the lights, then polish etc... shouldn't be too bad.
