Those of you who have groundcontrol coilovers and installed them
I ordered ground control coilovers for my maxima, and they just arrived on tuesday. The kit I got is for the stock, boge, sachs, or toxico's. I just noticed something about the coilover kit, on the instructions it shows 2 o-rings that go on the shock, and you put the threaded sleeve over them, I'm assuming to compensate for the difference in size. There are 2 o-rings taped to the inside of each sleeve in the box. However, I also have a bag of o-rings that came in the box, 18 more, 8 of them are much thicker in diameter and the other 10 are in between size of the big ones and the ones taped in the sleeve. I wonder if this will allow me to use different shocks than the one it's meant for?
Did any of you also receive a lot of extra different size o-rings in the box or is this a lucky mistake?
Also, on the directions it shows a urethene bushing, which is supposed to be supplied in the kit, but I didnt get any of them...where can I order these? I do now know the size, or equivalent size, so could someone help me out here? Thanks a lot.

I have no idea what bushing you are talking about, do you mean a bumpstop? If you do, then no, I never got a bumpstop with mine I just used the stock ones cut down.
As far as the O rings go yes you get like 20 of them in a bag all different sizes. You are probably going to find that none of them work, because they are rubber they are so "grippy" that you won't be able to slide the sleeve over the strut body. I just wrapped the strut in duct tape enough times that I provided a snug fit with as little play as possible between the strut and sleeve.
Also be prepared to grind on your strut a bit to get it to fit inside your GC sleeve, I don't know if all struts require this but GR2s and AGXs definately do.

For you guys with GCs do you get alota clicking noises when going over bumps? and also squeeking? If so, is there a way to get rid of these noises?
The clicking i am assuming is coming from the strut mounts. correct?

As far as noise, any noise I get is not directly related to the coilovers, but it is ultimately caused by the coilovers. Let me explain.
Any clicking, creaking, groaning, etc I get from the front end is a result of the having destroyed the strut mount bearings. Normally these bearings are sandwitched in there and never come loose because the suspension springs are always holding them in place, even when you jack the wheel up off the ground. The groundcontrol springs however are so short, that they do not hold these bearings in place when you jack the car up off the ground. When you set the car back down on the ground, these bearings may not seat correctly, infact its very hard to seat them perfectly. Reapeated raising and lowering of the car off the ground will cause these bearings to get mashed into nothingness. When that happens, you start getting weird noises. I currently have no strut bearings in the front, I jack my car up so often that they just get smashed to nothing. Not having these bearings in good working order will cause noises.
Now if you put your coilovers on and carefully seat the spring and bearing, and never jack the car up again, you wont have a problem, but if you are like me and raise the car up all the time (I do it to put my slicks on and work under the car) you will destroy the bearings after a while. The bearings cost about $15 each from nissan, and you have to remove the front suspension to replace them.
The only other noise I have experienced is just the clunking of shocks against the bumpstop, because if you have your car as low as mine, eventually you will bottom out your suspension.

Also u should put spiral wrap on the coils which you can get from radio shack and wrap the coils and it will eliminate most of the noise that the GC makes.
hmm.
Spiral wrap eh? ill try that.
As for the clicking noises when going over bumpes, isnt that the noise made when your strut mounts are going bad?
and just outa curiousity where can u get new wheal bearings for 15 bucks? i bought a set of new ones from my dealer for 75 bucks! of course i returned em lol...

i only got 4 total o rings with my g/c kit. but i think thats cause i ordered it for the agx's and i just used some water and muscle to get the sleeves over the o-rings. i love my g/c but i think the bad roads by my school might have done in my shocks or something. also my bearings have been stuck in the position where they sit the first time i put thm ino i can jack it up and they dont come out.

here is the best GC install ever http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/...spension.shtml
Thanks for the replies, but I still have one question. What is the difference between the kits specific for the "stock/tokico/sachs shocks" and the "kyb" and the "koni" kits? Are teh sleeves different sizes, or are the springs different heights? I ordered the stock kit, but I dont want to put the GC's on stock shocks or tokico shocks, I'd prefer to go with AGx's or Koni's. Anyone know whats different about them?

I noticed how its hand written in, but what is that bushing? I"m going to buy all new shocks and struts and mounts etc. so its a direct swap in for the whole suspension, but what is that bearing, as it was not supplied in the kit.
There is no bearing on the rear suspension, the strut bearing is only used on the front suspension to enable the wheels to turn silently and smoothly. But I think I remember that urethane bushing you are talking about, though it has been like 2 years since I had the suspension apart at all so I may be imagining things. I'd give them a call and see what they say as to why you didn't recieve one.
And cantgofast, I made my point perfectly, your comments added absolutely zero to the content of this thread, whereas all of mine, aside from my remarks to you, made very valid points, and add much not only to this thread, but the general knowledge of the .org in general. Thanks for playing though. Keep up the good work.

oops typo, I meant bushing not bearing..anyways, I'll have to call ground control and see what that is.
carl- I dont have the shocks yet, but when I get everything together, I'll let you know if I need any help installing it all.
