Throttle boddy cleaning question
Throttle boddy cleaning question
I bought the throttle body cleaner spray and cleaned my throttle boddy with it as directed by motorvate.ca. But I read the instructions on the back of the can and it says that I have to turn on the engine and push the valve in throttle body inside and spray the cleaner until used all of it up... This spray is highly flamable, is it wise to follow their instructions and start the engine with the boddy wide open and push it manually in and spray the can in?
Thank you all in advance.

Well first off, if you take the MAF portion of the intake off the intake the car will turn off.
What I have done is take the intake with MAF off and spray in there, take a rag and clean as deep in there as I can and open up the throttle body.
Then turn on the car and have someone manually hold the intake with MAF on the intake so the car doesnt turn off. Remember the car will be hard to start because of the fluid in there. Then slowly take off the intake until you can spray inside of the intake without the car turning off.

I think the main benefit of cleaning the throttle body is to remove the gunk between the butterfly plate and the bottom of the throttle body. So the idle is smooth and the gas pedal don't get sticky. Cleaning every 30K or so is good enough for me.
You can try to clean deeper inside the intake and get more dirt out, but there are dirt through out the intake manifold. What's the point of removing 10% of the dirt when the majority is still in there. The benefit is just not worth the extra work. If you still want to get it (intake) clean, a Seafoam treatment may be more effective.
