Mechanic says alternator may be bad... help please

Alright some of you may remeber my thread i have had up for a few days now about a whining noise. well my was taken into a mechanic today and the mechanic said its either the compressor or the alternator. he said i have to leave it and who knows when im gettin it back. my question is if its an alternator is that possible for me to do. i have done them before but on a car with it right on top. also if its a compressor, im assuming i can forget about doin that myself as well right?

well, how mechanically inclined are you?
we can't just assume what you can & what you can't do...

if people can do a 5spd conversion on their driveway, then you can change any of these with the right knowledge & tools.
