96 ECU in 97 cause Rear Heated O2 CEL?

I've got a 96, Fed spec, manual ECU in my 97, Fed spec, manual car. It has worked fine for a few weeks. Now I have a CEL, 07 07 "rear heated O2 sensor". I realize the rear 02 sensor in my 97 is located in the b pipe, while the 95/96's have the O2 sensor located in the rear of the cat. Are the O2 sensors different? Should I suspect a problem w/ my O2 sensor or is it because of the ECU swap? I will put my 97 ECU back in to see if I get the 07 07 code with it - I figured I'd start asking questions since I've finally taken the plunge to get the JWT ECU upgrade and am concerned this is going to cost even more. Thanks.

The o2 sensors are different. You will get hte code because of this. I read you can use an O2 sensor simulator and it will make hte code go away.

Thanks for the reply Kevlo911 - do you suppose I could just buy a 96's O2 sensor and install it where my 97's is?

TTT - I'm hoping someone else has done, or knows about this.

Thanks again.

I believe hte wireing is different. 95-96 is 3 wire and 97+ is 4. I am not 100% positive on that, but I am pretty sure that is right.

No prob, if you can figure out how to make hte wireing seem like its 3 wire 02, then I am pretty sure your CEL will go away.

I wonder if this must be the same problem that I've got now. I just recently installed a 96 auto TS ecu in my '97 auto max (built on 11/96). A week ago I got a CEL for 0505, I reset it, but the CEL keeps coming back again with 0505. I guess I'll have to take it down to AutoZone later today to have them pull codes what they can with their OBDII. Hopefully I'll be able to pinpoint the problem and take care of it without much hassle.

I must say that the ecu itself is awesome, the only thing I've really feel on my butt dyno since the ypipe.

I have been running a 96 ecu in my 98 for several months now with no issues.

I do not have the schematic for a 97, so I do not know if you have to move the rear O2 sensor signal wire to a different terminal on the ecu harness.

You will have to change the rear O2 sensor though.

This thread should explain everything
