Consuming Oil? Need help / advice.

I permanantly switched over to Mobil 1 5W30 Full Synthetic about 3-4 weeks ago. Now even before the switch I noticed that approx. ever 2500 miles or ever 3+ weeks the oil level would be low according to the dipstick, sometimes a little bit above the "L" mark I would usually add less than one quart .75 or or sometimes .50 and the level would be ok. But I'm noticing the same amount of consumption with the sythentic, so all I'm asking is if the consumption like I'm describing is normal. Now I'm not burning any oil, no smoke from exhaust, no smell etc. But I do very often drive the car hard take it to redline sometimes 4-5 times a day. So any help would be appreciated it. Thanks!

I remember reading someone called Nissan, and they told him it was normal to lose a qt every 3 months/3000 miles/oil change. I've read elsewhere on other makes and models, sometimes it can be normal. Though I don't enjoy reading such these things in any case. Sounds like BS to me.

I'm sure you won't see slight burning of oil or coolant in your exhaust. For instance, I lose about .25 qt every 6 months in coolant, but see no white smoke, or sweet smells from my exhaust.

I have oil loss now btw (leak) but I didn't see any loss of oil before.

In your case, every 3 weeks of your oil loss sounds adnormal, but 2500 miles on your engine every three weeks may be the same "normal" situation.

In any case, try a heavier oil, like 10/30. Except maybe during the dead of winter (Dec, Jan). Then use 5/30.

Also look for leaks. Try putting cardboard under car, and rev it, see if you start dripping oil. Oil leaks may not be apparent under off or idle load. Also, notice any wet/sweat spots underneath the hood?

Loosing that much oil every three weeks is too much, I think.

But then, redlining it that often is bound to tear up your engine.

You have no oil puddles under the engine? Where is it going to?

every eng is diff.... how many miles on the motor... that can make a diff.... my Max uses very little to no oil... I run 5w40 Castrol full synthetic ..but it only has 83k... on a side note.... would you like to know how much oil consumption is "within spec" for a new Audi/VW/Porsche/BMW... and most other car manufactures... 1qt per 1000 miles
so until that is exceeded I would tell you to add oil to your $80k new car... so.... just keep the oil level in the safe range and keep on enjoying your car..... later

I drive a lot a whole lot it was actually less than a quart more like .60-.70 quarts so yeah I'm assuming it's normal. Nope no leaks what so ever no leaks I park in a driveway so I don't see anything. So yeah I'll assume it's normal lol. 2500 miles in 2-3 weeks is like the equivalent to 2.5-3 months.

You should check the rear-main-seal for oil leaks.

My 5-speed car was burning about a quart every 3000 miles. After new rear main seal installation, oil consumption is almost gone.

My automatic never consumed any oil for 100,000 miles. At the most, maybe 1/4 of a quart every 3000 miles.
