Boost sensor found disconnected

today i found my boost sensor and its bracket laying under some wires and hoses up next to the TB. the hose that comes out of the side of the engine was attached normally, but the wire that connects to the side of hte sensor was only about 3 inches long and severed at the end. my car has been running fine, but i would like to reconect this wire. ill take a picture tomorrow morning, but does anyone know where the end of the wire connects?

also, what does the boost sensor do?
