Are Octane boost additives harmfull?
I was thinking about trying Octane Boost additives in my max, do these additives have good/bad effect on the engine and O2 sensors? Any performance gains to be had here? Thanks in advance..
Higher octane will probably not do anything unless it is raised quite a bit (much more than a 32oz or whatever bottle from walmart will provide) and you need to have advanced timing, turbo, SC, nitrous, or higher compression to really get something out of it.

It was of no use to me
I tried raising the octane on my gas to stop engine knocking and used the priciest brand I found, NOS, that claims to raise it the most points. And nothing. I still had knocking in my engine due to shi**y gas.
the engine is designed around a certain octane fuel (91 octane for the 3.0 right?) thus using higher octane, even 93, has no positive gains for your engine... therefore a complete waste of money to begin with...
like other people said, if you're SC'd, boosted, or just running abnormally high compression then the engine will need a higher octane fuel to have proper combustion...
my best friend has a project '79 camaro that I've been helping him work on for 3-4 years; it's a 350 that's been done up and down such that it pushes between 420-450hp (normally aspirated.)
talk about a beast, this stripped beaty (no interior, only front seats, grease stained white exterior, little bit of rust, "speed holes" in the hood from the wingnut on the aircleaner being too tall... hehe) gives a z06 a run for it's money
but my point is, in order for the engine to not "ping" (what happens when you're not running high enough octane,) I BELIEVE (dont kill me if im wrong) causes improper combustion, leading to build up that can possibly ignite and cause detonation that can seriously damage the internals of the engine.
octane boost does indeed work if used properly, (although we use amsoil -- for air filter, zero weight synthetic, and octane boost... amsoil = the BEST imho.) they don't bull**** you, but you pay a bit more.
p.s.
the camaro blew up two turbo 350's (literally blew up the tailshaft of the first one and dropped the drive shaft; we have a catch for such occasions though) and bent the drive shaft in that occasion (machine shop called us that was resizing it for new tranny to let us know it looked like a macaroni noodle.) and the second time it twisted the metal of the shaft .. but not warping it; interesting eh?
needless to say after putting in the stone crusher we used a different machine shop to make a new drive shaft

Thanks for all the input. I just wonder why some areas get up to 94 octane at gas stations and some only get as high as 91, I read some threads somewhere saying how good Sunco's 94 octane was and wondered if I was missing out. As far as premium goes, I didn't even know 94 octane existed, is there 95 somewhere? I can get 92 around here.
