maximas need showers in the morning too

tried to start my maxima today - blah... didn't go due to cold weather

this is the only complaint i've had about it over the years

it was tick tick ticking real fast when i tried to start, but no turn over

so then i thought, hrmmm, i took a warm shower to wake up, maybe white lightning should too

so i poured a few buckets of hot water on the engine block and almost got it to start

then i poured another one, and boom, it started right up no problems

i'm gonna have to do it again tommorrow to get it to my mechanic, otherwise i'll be pushing the car down i-95

the battery terminals are all caked with battery acid, do you think that could cause a problem?

sounds like your battery is dead to me. weak batteries will usually die on the first few cold days of the year.

sounds like the battery man. dont waste your time going to the mechanic and speading all the money on that. just go out and buy a new battery and clean up your terminals.

Baking soad and warm water would clean those damn terminals really well.

ZEESH..

Yah why dont you just drive it to Advanced auto and have the battery tested.. When you find out your battery is dead then you will be apologizing to her because you doubted her.

Caked on terminal crap. And you call yourself a maxima lover..

BAH

Unscrew the terminal cables. Get some water, baking soda, and a rag and clean it all out. If you have a wire brush on the softer side use that too if needed. Then dry it all off. Reconnect the cables and you should be just fine. If that doesn't work then go buy a new battery.

Mabye you should buy yourself a "better" car, for the most part people on this board don't mind getting their hands dirty for their max.

Pour Coca Cola on battery terminals, it eats up the acid...and the caked on stuff is really bad for charge.

I like tinkering with Thunder... sometimes I make it a hypocondriac so I can change something on it.

Idolsword: I agree with you. My dad's a mechanic and before i bought my max, i never knew a thing about cars. After i found this board. i fell in love with my car. I do everyingthing by myself. Knock Sensor failure, i fix it. Changed the oil, flushed the radiator i did it all. i know what his state of mind is, but i never had the money to go to a mechanic. My father was one.

You are lucky to have a father who is capable with cars. No one in my family knows anything about cars, so when I got mine and since I am in university I don't have the money to go to a mechanic, I had to do majority of my work myself. Was a pretty long learning process. Can you believe at one point I had no idea what engine oil is and does?

I do my own work, my dads a mechanic so I guess I got it good for the most part. But if your terminals are that dirty then you should change them and maybe even the battery depending on how long ago you last changed it.
