Was Your Money Spent Well On Your Car?

So How Much Have You "invested"(i use that term lightly as it might acutally decrease the value of your car) In Your Car? With All The Money I've Put In My Car, I Could of Bought a Brand New G35c. So, How Much?

ive spent a lot on my car, I have figured out what i like and dont like and where I want to go w/ future cars so its hard to put a dollar figure on that.

i.e. more performance and less looks........

paid about 6k for the car, and another 1.7K so far in repairs, still have more repairs to do before I can get to enjoy more mods again.

I think its worth it as long a smile comes to your face just about everytime you crank the car up, and drive away, or people staring at your like, I didnt know a MAXIMA could look soo good.

spent near $1000 in repairs/maintenance over the summer, thought it was worth it, but now that my brother is threatening to take the Max back and I feel that I wasted my $$ .. worst part about it is that I'm still not done w/ repairs and I had plans to mod so everything now has been flushed down the toilet

wheels - 1500
stereo - 2500+
alarm - 600
light mods and tint- 500

some people go way beyond this adding all sorts of crazy performance and engine mods

it IS a hobby, so IMO to each their own
but, cars depriciate quickly
and, mods are not good for resell

so enjoy it while it lasts, but be responsible if it isnt in your budget

I LOVE MY STEREO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I had a 1995 Ford Aspire, almost same thing a Geo. 1.3 liter. $13.00 to fill the tank. Got between 30-40 mpg. Never had any problems with it.

Thats why everytiem u want to mod, you just take that money you would have spent and put it in a jar, few years later you can brake that jar and get yourself G35 and say you got one big G35mod

theres never an outrageous amount i could ever spend as long as it makes me happy, sure in the long run its a loss of money cause it depreciates very fast, but the good times i spent installing my stuff or driving around are priceless.

BTW, im up to maybe 2k in parts, repairs and misc stuff.

**** this thread hurts.... spent about $9k this last 3 months alone on the turbo setup.

Prior - $4k on my sc setup

NA mods - $3k

5spd swap - $1400

Motors - 2 swaps - $700 total

Exhaust setups - 550+600+ 450

So we're looking at close to $25k plus the car?

I've got no regrets though... happy boosting

Overall I think I've spent about 4.5k on mods for my car so far. The only regretable mod is probably the 19s moda r6 i have one. Don't get me wrong big rims are sweet but they are big catalyist when it comes to racing. I'm looking to spend more on performance now that my mevi is finally working correctly.

$5K or so on the turbo including peripherals and fuel tuning.
$4K on the previous SC setup
I'm on my second $5K paintjob
I'm about to get my 3rd set of wheels, that's ~$2.5K
New custom interior was $1.5K
Previous custom interior was $1.5K
Stereo, $7-8K, who knows, a lot of the work was done at my shop so it doesn't count.

That's just the big stuff, I've got another $15K easy in all the little things in the car, all the suspension setups, brakes, accessories, nitrous, etc. So all told, probably around $40K in mods over the last few years. Bought the car new in '97 for $24K.

Do I regret it, not really. Yeah, I could have bought a G35 or Lexus for the amount of money I've dumped into the car. But I like my car, and I can still buy a G or a Benz if I choose to. I'm not in debt over the mods like some people, have a house, and I don't have a car payment, so it's no big deal. It's a project car for the business now, so at least I get a tax writeoff.

Ihappy at where my car is, but it's take me of a lot of money to get here. This car has basically been a learning experience and now I know what I will and won't be doing on my next car. Here is stuff I consider wasting money on:

1) UDP $210, crappy driveability, sold for $110
2) KYB GR2 rear struts, blown in 10K miles, $120 in the trash
3) KYB AGX rear struts $180, way too harsh, sold for $90
4) Stillen noresonated B-pipe $200, way too loud, sold for $100
5) Courtesy B-pipe $140, didn't fit good, sold for $70
6) Various intake setups, no difference in performane, lost $80
7) HKS muffler $250, too loud once the y-pipe was added, sold for $100
8) ES urethane swaybar and endlink bushings $20, too harsh, selling soon
9) Suspension Techiques springs $140, too harsh and not much drop, sold for $100
10) Intrax springs $180, too harsh and too low, sold for $140
11) Old style Stillen y-pipe $280, blown flex section, sold for $50
12) Front and rear engine mounts $140, upon replacement it turns out the orginial were fine, sold used mounts for $50
13) Bought a stereo and BOSE adapter kit when my BOSE died $400, sold BOSE adapter for $40, still have stereo in basement, fixed BOSE for $180
14) Kosei K1 16X8s with 225/50 rubber $1000, sold for $500
15) Team Loco 17X7 with 235/45 rubber $1200, sold for $500

I figure it's cost me around $2700 to figure out what I do and don't like on my car. I won't be making the same mistakes again.
