Which 96 ECU for my 97? JWT 97 PPL Please Read!

I have an auto 97 and I will be getting a 95-96 5spd or auto ECU for the JWT "chipping" Will either one work?

I was planning on getting an 95-96 auto ECU, considering I have auto. But I wanted to know if a 95-96 5spd ECU would work in my 97 auto? If they both work which one should I get? 5spd or auto? Keep in mind that I hope to own 95 or 96 5Spd Maxima within a year, and obviously would want to use the same JWT ecu. I don't car about having a CEL in my auto but would prefer to not have one in my future 95-95 5spd.

The main thing I want to know is, will a 95-96 5spd ECU work in my 97 auto?

97 JWT People, what do you have?

It will work but why the hell would you get a 5spd ECU for the auto? Did you ever remove the shifter trim and see all the wires there? Well the 5spds don't have those wires. The wires go to the TCM and some go to the ECU. You won't pass emissions with a 5spd ECU cause you'll most likely have a CEL. I'd understand if it was hard to find an AUTO ecu but there are many more of those than 5spd ones.

You may not have seen this because I changed some words around in my 1st post right before you posted.

There's no emmisions here + I don't care at all If I have a CEL in my 97. However, I would prefer not to have it in my future 95 or 96 5Spd Maxima.
(so it can function as it should)

No one else can do what JWT does, therefore nothing else is acceptable. (For me at least)

No you can't, actually yeah you could. Our ECUs are not flashable, they attach a daughterboard to the ECU to make it work.

You have the same options a 97 has. Buy a 95-96 ECU and have it modified and put up with the probable CEL it will most likely give you.

No, a 95-96 5 spd ecu will NOT work in an automatic car, unlike was said before. Hope you didn't send it off to them yet. An auto ecu will work in a 5spd, but a 5spd will not work in an auto. You have to use an auto ECU if you are auto.

Thanks man, that's what I thought but need some kind of confirmation. Like I said before I don't care much about having a CEL anyways so I think I will go ahead and get an auto ECU. It would be easier re-selling it later anyways (Highly Unlikely for at least a couple years.)

Anyone with more info?

Who has a JWT ECU? (97-98) With or without MEVI? Which did you get first?

I plan on getting MEVI sometime but I know I want to get the ECU first.

Get the ECU first...it more fun to experience alot more hp throughout the powerband first. Then when you get the MEVI, you'll be like going back to stock (kinda sorta). Think about it, if you get the vi first, your car will be -~8/12hp slower in the low/midrange area. Get the ecu then vi. That's how I did it.

BTW I have a 96 ecu 5spd in a 97...

I've ordered mine through Cattman. From what I understand from JWT, their dealers are able to sell it for less than them. So, I'd say get it from either Avalon or Cattman. From what I hear, the turn-around is about 8 weeks. :yikes:

I'd get the ECU before the MEVI if I had it to do over again.
