I cleaned my throttle body this morning, it was pretty dirty, and I had purchased some seafoam so I used about 1/2 bottle in the gas tank and then put some thru the brake booster. the engine runs awesome, but now the transmissions shifts REALLY hard. i just reset the ECU but it still seems the same, any other ideas would be appreciated!

Tell me you didn't seriously add some to your brake fluid.

He used the vacuum line for the brake booster to suck the stuff into his intake for deep cleaning.

It shouldn't have effected your tranny shifts. Did you disconnect the drop resistor by accident? That will cause very hard shifts.

well that was it...i had unplugged it when i removed the intake to clean the TB, funny thing is I drove around all day today with 3 people with me and i think i gave them whiplash

that is something i miss from my 94 Max, it had a comfort/sport switch that firmed up the shifts, but not quite to the extent of unplugging the drop resistor!

Um, unplugging the drop resistor does NOT hurt the tranny, in fact it is better for the tranny at WOT. The hard shifts are a bit harder on the rest of the drivetrain, of course.

Ummm, I'm blind. I suggested a TPS adjustment, but didn't read this.

Oh, and Vquick, explain to me how whacking the heck out of a tranny all day is good for it? (Edit: This is sarcasm)

WOT is a different story as you've said.

There was an emission related recall and some people have had their oxygen sensor(s) replaced also along with the emission component. Call up the stealership and give them your VIN so they can check if your car falls in with the recall.

We've been over and over and over this.

Check out Jime's write-up in the nitrous forum for info.

omg plug it back in and dont ever take it out again.. unless you put it on a switch...

non-WOT shift's at full line pressure = dead tranny soon...

Could be. Get an ohm tester and check the drop resistor. It should read anywhere between 11.4 and 12.6 Ohms. Think mine reads 12.

Also, check/adjust ur TPS. I did this yesterday, and it has improved the shifting under hard acceleration (mine was 18% off) . Not nearly as bad as before. There is a writeup on 5 different things to check for hard shifting between 1 and 2nd, and the TPS is the first thing to check. It's free to adjust yourself...assuming you have an ohmmeter. Read my previous 2 posts.

I think slight harshness in shifting is normal for these maxima's (atleast older maxima's), but some of us have/had it worse than others. It can be "normal", but it can be helped.
