UK Maxima stalls only when cold
I'm one of the few UK Maxima owners (in the UK Nissan has an image problem so nobody buys them) and I love it. You guys are my only source of tech info. (though not usually needed, of course) since there's not even a Haynes for Maxima in UK.
Here's my prob...
Just started new job and now my commute involves some stop-start driving while the engine is still cold (Old trip was fast driving during warm up). Engine idling at 1200 or so, revs will drop without warning and stall. Judging by the strong smell of gas and length of cranking before it fires up again it's flooded. When warm car runs perfect. So why is it running rich when cold ? Checked intake and MAF looks brand new (read some threads and expected it to be dirty & thought this could be it), filter OK, cleaned throttle body (bit gunky but seen lots worse). No joy.
Had the AA (like AAA in US) guy out but his lead for OBDII won't fit. So we're guessing at ...
faulty MAF, MAP, coolant temp sensor, O2 sensors
What hardware/software do I need to check engine fault codes ?

Read the FAQ and sticky up on top to diagnose the codes, FAQwill also tells you how to pull them yourself without OBD2 scanner.
I'm assuming that you'll be able to do that on UK Maxima.
Good luck, keep us updated.
Nick.

aha - found the 'SELF DIAGNOSIS' stuff - thanks
will check for codes - no engine check light though - never have had one - does this mean no fault codes ?
was thinking of replacing CTS anyhow because this morning the fans kicked in before the engine got hot - probably cheap enough to 'try and see' - even in rip-off britain
FYI normal price of stuff over here = same # of GBP as USD plus some
eg dealer 'y' pipe was GBP350
