Starter Issue

The search doesn't work, so I haver to ask this question - probably the third time. Oh well.

My '97 starter has been acting up of late with 148,000 on the clock. It turns over a little more slowly than usual, and seems to turn over faster & slower when cold cranking. Hot starting is better but still not what it used to be.

This morning it sounded like "missed a tooth" or 2, so maybe the bendix is going? Bad cable connection? Or is it just getting old?

If I need to replace it, what is the most cost effective yet reliable solution?

TIA.

Check the motorvate website on how to regrease it, buy a new one, or use a hammer and slam the crap out of it and it will work, but this gets old.

AutoZone offers one for about 160-180.

if your on the original starter you are due for a new one. Both autozone and pep boys have life time warranties on their starters.
