Solenoid Valves - Replacement (95 with RE4F04A)

Just ran the tranny diagnostics and I got the code for the Line Pressure Solenoid (10th flash longer). It just started to slip when accelerating and feels like it's jumping in and out of gear when stopped at intersections after it warms up for a few minutes. When I start to move, it feels like a bad case of engine skip, but it's actually the tranny. ATF level OK.

Has anybody replaced the solenoids (all one harness with the five solenoids and temp sensor attached)?

I'll replace the dropping resistor also as it is part of the line pressure solenoid circuit.

How about the part numbers for the harness/solenoids and resistor?

Any help/info appreciated!

Thanks,
Tim

I heard cleaning them would be 90% successful to getting this cel removed, you might want to look into it before buying a new one. There were some posts here about this but I dont know where it is even located.

Has anybody replaced their solenoids?

If so, what were the symptoms the transmission was exhibiting prior to replacement?

Just looking for additional info before I bring it to the dealer or just replace the solenoids with the newer ones. I get no codes now per the onboard test (light flashing). Might just have the dealer hook the scan tool and see if there are any codes or failures.

Thanks

I did mine not so long ago, the symptoms were : hard shifts from 1st to 2nd gear , loud thud when engaging in gear , flashing overdrive light at start up and check engine light was on showing 1205 code for line pressure solenoid. Before you do anything whip out your handy ohm meter and check resitance of your dropping resistor - it should read around 12ohms with the engine off. The dropping resistor was bad on my car and i ended up replacing solenoids which wasn't neccessary at that point.

the dropping resistor costs $60 at the dealership vs $140 for set of solenoids.

Do You have drop resistor mod ??? if yes - than check your wires to make sure the circuit is complete.

here is another thread with pics and lots of info

Thanks for the inputs.

My symptons are different. No resistor mod either. Did a drain and replace of the ATF a couple of times, but it looked fine and nothing was in the fluid. Can't really tell what the problem is looking through the FSM either.

I know the early solenoids were a bad design and probably should be replaced anyway.

Guess I'll visit the dealer and at least get a scan done. Something might come up with that.

yes - Nissan had TSB on those solenoids , and there is new and updated version which sells for $140.
Beware of dealer - they wanted over $700 to fix mine.

test your dropping resistor first
