I don't think there's a badge on the engine. The engine CODE is around where the knock sensor is.

It's just the engine code though ( VQ30DE )

In between the heads under the intake manifold. Best seen from driver side.

ALL engines and ALL transmissions have the vehicle's VIN stamped into it or have a plate riveted to it somewhere. This is how you can tell if a car has ever had the engine and/ or tranny removed or if it's the original. VQ30DE is the engine series... not the VIN. I looked at my car today, the VIN on the tranny is visible from the driver side. Just open the hood and look down on the tranny, there is a plate with the VIN stamped on it riveted to the tranny near where it meets up with the engine. The engine has it's own VIN stamped or plated on. I haven't found it yet but it's on the block somewhere, never the intake or anything like that. If you like I can take a pic of the VIN plate on the tranny and as soon as I find the one on the engine I'll post it here as well.

On a side note... ALL body panels on our Maxima's and almost all cars after 1996 have VIN stickers on them. If you open your doors, hood, trunk, bumpers, etc. all have a small white sticker about 0.5 in. x 3.5 in. with the vehicles VIN on it. These are NHTSA stickers and are used to deter auto stripping. This is how you can tell if your car has ever been hit, painted or had body panels replaced, etc., if any of the stickers are missing because if they are tampered with, they disintegrate. If anyone can't find their NHTSA stickers, I can post pics of those too.
