jdm71488 Oct 24, 2004 06:41 AM

screw the pics get some freakin sound clips!!!

Kevlo911 Oct 24, 2004 06:56 AM

Did you have a ypipe prior to this?

I30tMikeD Oct 24, 2004 07:38 AM

I have the cattman and SP2 set up and yes it does sound really nice. At idle there is just this really deep hummmmm

Zack342 Oct 24, 2004 07:41 AM

i can vouch that they sound unbelieveable, i have heard them in person on MAxazor's car. Driving it is wonderful, pulls hard.

RI-Max Oct 24, 2004 09:05 AM

yes i did have a y pipe before... i'll try and get clips 2 night.

Kevlo911 Oct 24, 2004 10:08 AM

Wow, you had ypipe and you still felt gains after headers, that is great

RI-Max Oct 24, 2004 10:10 AM

ya i know and usally i don't feel gains lol.. on my butt dyno. i'll get videos around 6:00

jdm71488 Oct 24, 2004 10:15 AM

darn... i already decided to just go y over headers, but now, im reconsidering... :(

Dave B Oct 24, 2004 10:45 AM

I wish the track ET/MPH supported the butt dynos. I really want to believe these things work.

yep, it would give me another reason to buy them...

speedemn Oct 24, 2004 12:17 PM

Hmmm looks like all these testimonials are making my slowly switch my position from the y-pipe being enough... I would definetly like to see some track times back up the headers!

BaiCheSE Oct 24, 2004 01:36 PM

for those with the y-pipe / headers / sp2 exhaust, i have read that it as a low hum at idle...how about when moving? do you always hear the hum?

i wanted to keep the noise levels reasonable....nothing loud when i am driving all the time..just when i gas it over 3000 rpms....any advice?

Maximeltman Oct 24, 2004 01:53 PM

did you have to lift your motor out a bit to get to the header? i hope you didnt because im going to do this as well, and im doing it myself but dont want to rent a cherrypick.

I had way to many varibales with my before and after track results, so I don't feel it is fair for me to make claims on how they affected my performance. I did not dyno with them before and after either. With that said, I feel that they did not do much and if I were put back in the same position and knowing what I know now I probably would not do it again. Sure they look great under the hood and sound really nice with the SP2...but that is not why I got them.

But there is also other factors. I may continue to mod this car...SC, maybe the 3.5 bottom end. So in the long run it may be good that I got them.

I just don't want people saying that the Cattman headers don't do much based on my expierence.

jome80627 Oct 24, 2004 03:09 PM

If you were to get the headers installed at a shop, what do you suppose it will cost? I don't have a lift or anything close to it in order to do it myself.

ive heard anything from $400-700 just for the install... :( unfortunately...

HOW BOUT THEM CLIPS?! :)

nismo2020 Oct 24, 2004 11:00 PM

you know i heard cattman + greddy and it sounded okay not great .. ceasers sounds real nice though. def need track or dyno #s to back up 700.00 headers vs 200.00 y-pipe

BORQUA79 Oct 24, 2004 11:09 PM

Ummm.... Wheres the clips????

Once I get my new clutch installed, and go to the track on a day when the DA isn't 1500+, then I think my ET and MPH will support the headers. Only time will tell.

Zack342 Oct 25, 2004 05:38 AM

Ri max you still have this week to head up to the track, prove to everyone that these headers work. the headers are no longer $700, more like $825. but we will see. i think these will make a diffrence, well i know on my car the would any way since i have a pre-cat that is still on there. i am cali emissions and i feel that if this is eliminated that it may free up some HP.
good luck

Linkage23 Oct 25, 2004 08:11 AM

Paired up with the MEVI and JWT ECU you're gonna be in a new car all together! I hope to see/hear the results of your latest mod! Get some pics ASAP so we can start making Christmas lists! HA HA HA!!! But seriously.....

I want to believe however the data suggests otherwise. I30tMike, Ceasar, and Optimus has all shown no change in the 1/4 mile with the headers over a y-pipe.

deadman.inc Oct 25, 2004 01:30 PM

wow, the cattman headers are so expensive!! at cutomenterprise.com atleast. where did you get yours from? and how much did they cost? the one at customenterprise come with the y-pipe tho.... and the installation cost must have been a killer! i mite get it down the road in the future, like in a year or two, but rite now, im estremely short on money!

RI-Max Oct 25, 2004 03:05 PM

still working on the clips guys haven't had much time... but i have a test pipe in i wanna get a higflow cat in thier. casue it get raspy around 3,000-3,5000. i bet with the high flow casue it will even sound betta.

after driving it for a few days now. i hear a rattle. idk if its bees in a can noise or what????? i hear it on accel. and decell around 2,600-3,400. btw im using the warpspeed hanger.

Here's a link to some dyno results I posted on maximaracing.org. The dyno is stock vs header, not y-pipe vs header but still a worthwhile comparison as y-pipe #'s are pretty well known.

nismology Oct 25, 2004 03:54 PM

I already have a y-pipe and I'll get the headers as soon as i have the money. The sound alone is enough. A good sounding exhaust setup is priceless IMO. I want the tone of my exhaust to match my intake tone.

NmexMAX Oct 25, 2004 03:55 PM

But still, for about a 5-7whp gain over y-pipe (if that), not worth the extra $500+ and pain to install.

deadman.inc Oct 25, 2004 05:32 PM

how much did everything cost ya? the installation, and the headers it self of course.

Tatanko Oct 25, 2004 05:38 PM

In my opinion it is, if even just for the really sweet exhaust tone...especially on a 3.5.

jdm71488 Oct 25, 2004 09:22 PM

still waiting for some sound clips... :)

deadman.inc Oct 25, 2004 09:24 PM

cost? installation + the hardware

Got mine directly from Cattman for $695 + shipping. It comes with everything you need (headers, y-pipe, gaskets, hardware etc). Don't know if that price still applies though, it might be more now. Install did not cost me anything as I did it myself.

As far as sound goes, it is definitely a nice improvement, especially paired with Cattman's catback. Check out Ceasar's sound clips on maximaracing.org... it's music to the ears.
