squealing at startup. Tried new starter, but problem persists

I have about 150,000 miles on my original starter and I heard WEEEE noise when I started up the car. I got it replaced and now I still hear the noise particularly when it is cold and/or when I have the AC or heat on. Sometimes that doesn't even matter. Doesn't seem to happen when everything is warmed up though. Any thoughts on what else it could be?

Thanks,

My car squealed at start up and it was a belt that was really worn and needed to be replaced, maybe that's the problem?

its most likely the belt! Tighten it and see what happens.

i'd suggest the belt, it probalby loosens up after a few minutes and stops squealing or lessens.

I agree with the belt suggestion. The squeeling is more than likely caused by a loose or worn out belt. However, the way you talked that it does it with the a/c on can describe other problems...as in the a/c compressor freezing up. (I doubt this though...probably just the belt)

The belt isn't too worn as of right now. I just replaced the factory pulley with an underdrive one and a brand new belt probably within the last 5,000 - 7,000 miles. Might have to go and tighten up the belt with the tensionner. How can I tell what level of tension is right?

I will have to give it a try later in the week. Right now I am studying for my Net+ cert on Thursday, so Friday will be the time to test this. That and put a screwdriver to the alternator or the idler pulley to check those as well.

belt for sure, tight it and it will not make any more sound.
mine and my bro's max had exact same problem and both of them are solved by tightening the belt.

I have exactly the same problem - engine squeals for a while cold and as it warms up the sound goes away. My first guess is the altenator but I'm not so sure of that considering my 99 has just 60'000 miles.

The engine squeal occurs regardless of outside temperatures. +90/-30. It's just when the engine has been idle and cooled off.

Timing chain tesnoiner of flywheel teeth gear if it is not the belts. Or could be a bad starter? Rebuilt does not always mean better.
