The dreaded check engine light came on in my 98, so I checked it. I got the code 0413, which is undefined according to the ECU decoder, does this mean anything?

I check it again and got the same code, then tried to turn off the light using the directions given on this website by turning it twice and it wouldn't go off, then it gave the all clear 0505. Now I don't know what's going on, but I still can't turn the light off, any ideas?

I had an alarm put in recently, could that be causing the light to go on for no reason? The cruise control stopped working after the installation, so I don't really trust what they did.

seems like the people who installed your alarm messed up your car, especially if your cruise control doesnt work after you got it back?

I would complain and take it back get them to fix everything, and tell them due to their improper installation they have messed up your car and make them pay for repairs.

 

did they install the led in your dash cluster? they may have forgotten to plug the cruise control switch back in. real easy to check...

They denied any responsibility about the cruise control, they also broke receiver, but at least they were willing to fix that. The cruise worked on the way over there, but not on the way back. Also any insight into the check engine light? I don't really use the cruise that much anyway, but it's nice to have.

 

well if they pulled the cluster trim for any reason, there's a possiblilty they forgot to plug something back in, or it didn't get plugged in all the way. just remove the bezel around the gauges and make sure everything is plugged in back there. try to clear the CEL again. if you're getting an 0505 now, you alread cleared the DTC, but if you have a "real" problem, it will throw a code again eventually. where the hell did you take it anyways?

 

a local alarm shop, decent-sized, could there be a reason my CEL won't go off now that it has been cleared? and what did the 0413 code mean if it is undefined?
