Question about reading the TPS

How exactly do i do this? When reading ohms, where does the key have to be in the ignition? obviously i cant start the car since there is a TPS connection disconnected. Can anyone give me a quick write up on how do exaclty test my TPS. Thanks, its MUCH appreciated.

I read the "How To's," but i can't understand it to well, the instructions aren't clear enough to me.

If you're checking resistance, (ohms), you want the circuit isolated, no power. Ign off.

Do you have a multimeter? If so, put it to ohms, red lead on pin 2, black lead on pin 3. Foot off gas pedal, Ignition OFF, sensor disconnected. You should get 500 ohms. as you press gas pedal, resistance will go up, reaching approx. 4000 ohms at wot.

My RPMs fluctuate when I slow down and idling. I idle at around 500-550, which i think is really low and sometimes my RPMs will drop below 500 and give my car a jolt, which causes the "fluctuating"

So far i have cleaned my TPS sensors to make sure there is a good connection and i cleaned my Throttle Body about 2 months ago. Im getting Fuel induction service real soon, so im hoping that is the issue.

try cleaning your IAC valve, EGR, and cleaning or replace your PCV valve.

Ignition is supposed to be off when checking the sensor.

Just for the outside chance, check your ECU screw and make sure it is turned in the correct direction. It happend to me before and having the screw in the wrong spot will do funny things to your idle. It has happend to others as well, and they think I am crazy when I tell them to check it. It just seems that us org guys check our codes so much that we sometimes just leave the screw in the wrong spot.
