I Did Mine In My Shop And I Work On Cars For A Living. But Like The Guy Before Me Said Get A 12mm Swivel Socket...3/8 Drive Ratchet And Extension. The Extension You Get Should Be About A Foot Long. Make Sure You Get A Swivel Socket And Not A Swivel And A Socket Cause It Wont Work. Next Get Some Tar Like Substance And Put It On The End Of The Socket. This Will Keep You From Dropping The Bolt Into No Mans Land Because Yhe Bolt Will Stick In The Socket. Just Reverse These Steps When Putting It Back In. Stick The Bolt In The Socket Using The Tar And Start The Bolt W/ Your Hands So You Dont Strip The Threads. I Did Mine In 10 Minutes.

cant stress waht 2 Da Max said enough, 12mm swivel socket, itll cost like $7, problab one time use, but well worth it. i put duct tape on the back of my hand so it idndt get cut off, i dont have alot of hair on my arms, so duct tape dindt bother me. protected my hands pretty well. oh yeah...make sure the engine isnt hot, pretty obvoius, but sometimes we tend to overlook the simpler things.

Yeah...just expect cuts and bruises. Tight area down there!

Above tools are needed...I got a magnetic pickup just in case, but I didn't need it.

JLuis,

I would have thought you would have learned to read the stickies :P

The faqs espcially from skippy is a good one. I did mine in 20-30 mins, my g/f has small hands that helped but also a good tool set with that 9" extension bar helped out BIG time.

Why will a socket on a u-joint not work? Not sure I am seeing the difference in the end result.... but clearly there is - can anyone elaborate on this.

yeah, the angle is too large, before if you have an inch in length fo the socket, and another 3/4 inch of length for the swivel, you increase the angle by like 30+ degrees, an in such a tight space you dont get the proper angle, youll wind up stripping the bolt because the socket wont sit flat.

with just a swivel you get a perfect angle for the tight space, some people used the universal swivel and a 12mm and it had worked, but defiantely doesnt work with craftsman. tehy probalby used a different brand which was sized a little different.

So 12mm swivel socket on a 12" (minimum) extension are the key tools.... thanks for the clarification.

What about for a '99 Automatic SE? All of the tutorials I'm seeing are for previous years, which don't look to have nearly as many tubes blocking the entrance to that "valley". In my '99 there are a plethora of tubes and brackets blocking the way, so even when I do get the ratchet in there, I can't turn it more then 1" either way.

this kid next to me says that in my car 99, you need to remove all the components to get to it... not sure though

PPL my record 15 min!!! w/ ECU diagnostic 1 spray some wd40, try to spray directly on sensor,
than take 12mm >--< and some kinda smaller one, use it as lever.

Changing KS on 97 much easier than on 95!!!
