where do you jack your car up?

I had another thread that i responded to but i guess no one saw it.

Anyways, I got a floor jack for my car and I have two jack stands ready to be used. I know there are 2 grooves under the car next to the wheels that are supposed to be used with the scissor jacks that came with the car. But where am I supposed to lift the car up from using the jack and where do I place the stands once it's lifted? i sadly bent part of the metal frame cause I guess i tried using the wrong spot.
thanks!

1. under the center engine support at the front end of the car - you'll see a little nub

2. under the rear axle beam - use a 2x4 or something between the jack and the beam

then use the reinforced edges for the jackstands - put the jackstands just inside the lip so you don't bend it.

ok thanks for that link.

I have another question not answered in the threads.

The top of my jack stand is like a U-shaped thing. the frame of the car where there are two grooves behind the front wheel doesn't reach the center of the U, therefore the inner edges of the jack stand are the only thing holding the car up, and it ends up touching some non-metal white colore'd thing. Or how am I supposed to support the sides up? Am I supposed to place the stands so the frame lies on top of both edges of the U?
