Should I remove headlight housing bulb cylinder?

So I'm doing the AE headlight mod this afternoon, and when I separated the housing from the lens, I notice this black cylinder that would go around the bulb when it's in the housing...

Here's a pic of it on my cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/711695/2

What purpose does this thing serve?? I'm inclined to get rid of it because it looks like it would block the light coming from the headlight bulb...

So basically what I'm asking is should I just get rid of the cylinder?

no, i believe it holds your bulb in place and if you get rid of that your headlights won't be aimed correctly. let it be...

Alright, I'll leave it be unless someone can give me a reason to do it or has had experience with taking this part out...

leave it. it shields glare and aides in aiming of the light.
