Shifter color question

In my 96 I30, there is a 194 bulb that lights up the shifter panel. The factory color is that light green color, but I wanted to make mine pure white. I though by adding a pure white 194 bulb in there, that would do the trick, but when I did this, it turned my shifter panel BLUE?????

Can someone tell me what happened? And no, the bulb does not have a blue tint to it at all.

I am thinking maybe there is a film or something in the shifter panel that is reacting with the white light?????

THanks

Interesting. I've been wanting to make my Shifter into Pure White as well, but I have never heard of this. So can I still make it white, or no? I don't like the dull stock color!

What about Blacklights? Has anybody put these in and/or tried them? If so, how'd they look?

Yes, there is a filter in the panel. I changed my low fuel bulb to a pure white LED expecting to get a much brighter orange than the stock low fuel light. I did get a brighter low fuel light, which I like, but it was lime green yellowish.

I guess this is kind of how the red cellophane makes the numbers in the clock and Bose radio white. Color rules seem to be different for LED's.

So can this filter be easily sanded like the Heated Seat controls or what?
