99 maxima cracked lug nut stem

hey guys, i went to balance my tires, and they guy cracked the screw where the lug nut goes on. he secured wheel with the other four. he said it's not his fault.

Question- is it safe to drive with 4 nuts instead of 5

It is safe to drive with 4. 3 is the minimum, however, it needs to be fixed. It shouldnt be too costly. This happened to my friends car, he drove on it for a long time not knowing. I think he had to drill it out to replace it. Dont know what he paid, we get to work at a shop and use their tools for really cheap. Lol, make sure your lugs are in good health...my friend traded his Max on a TA...lost his left rear wheel on the interstate, all 5 sheared off.. shows him not to turn his back on Max eh?

The lugs are about 2 bucks each. Remove the wheel & rotor and knock the broken stud out with a hammer. Then install the new stud from behind, use a wheel nut and a few washers to pull the new stud into place. Takes about 30 minutes in your driveway.

yeah, just do it youreslf, take a lug nut and some washers and press it into place youreslf, have someone take a lever to hold the rotor in place, i guess you can use the handbrake if its the rear while you tighten it.

It would be a good idea to put some anti-seize on the studs before you re-tighten them. Guys at the shop used air tools to tighten the bolts, the lug nuts cross threaded and broke upon removal

Tighten them by hand!
