I want CD & Tape

So we recently bought a 95 GXE, and it has a sony CD Player. I want both tape and CD. Did any 4th gen maximas (GLE maybe) come standard with a CD and tape player? If so what years, and will it be a straight fit on my car???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the Bose systems come with that setup? and if so, could you hook up just the Bose headunit without any other complications? I don't know myself, just guessing, but I'm sure others will chime in, answer my questions and present you with other options.

Yea the bose came with CD and tape. I think you can only use Bose speakers for it to work properly

yes. The bose did come come with both cd and tape. Unfortunately you can't just hook up a bose head unit to normal speakers since the HU puts out almost no power. each bose speaker is individually amped. Even if you bought the speakers too I'm not sure if your car is wired for this setup. there are four wires that go to each speaker.

You can get creative and add an amp to push aftermarket speakers, but if you really want CD and tape, i'd buy a tape deck with a built-in cd changer controls... then buy a changer.

It'll still be cheaper than buying just the bose HU.

see the audio section for more information.

I believe the Non-bose 1997+ SE models came with the same clarion AM/FM/CD/CASS HU, just without the BOSE label on the cassette lid. You could possible use that HU if the wiring from behind is correct.

Otherwise, you could just step into your nearest SEARS, CURCUIT CITY, BEST BUY, ect... and spend money for a new Double DIN AM/FM/CD/CASS player that'll play CD/CD-R/CD-W/MP-3 data.

I got a 1999 GLE that came with the bose setup, and yes, it has both cd and tape. But the system is crap..turn it up a bit..the speakers distort...turn it down..too much base....there is no way to get the damn thing to sound right even after tweaking with the EQ. If you can afford it..just go get a new system. That's what I will be doing soon. I think just a high powered head unit with after market speakers..even with no sub...would be a vast improvement over the stock.....freakin horrible!

I believe it was some sort of a sound storage device that was magnetic ribbon based, with some moving parts. It's been a long time since I actually heard or seen one in operation. I heard that there was no way to skip tracks or hear the audio during fast forward or rewind. And it's been recorded that the stereo you played it on, frequently ate the tape, belching out a shower of brown colored ribbon. The last I heard....it went the ways of the Michael Jackson zipper jacket and disappeared forever. Could you imagine having to deal with all those problems now? In this day and age of time machines and automatic toilets that wash your ***? I shudder at the thought.

There are aftermarket units that fit maxes that have what you want.. I think Clarion builds a unit that does soo.

I have the Clarion double-din HU and hooked up a 4-channel Alpine amp for the front and rear speakers and a Kicker Amp for a subwoofer box. Sounded really clear and loud with just the factory speakers for a few years and sounds even better now with aftermarket speakers.
