Knock sensor question

My check engine light came on and a mechanic ran the diagnostics and said it was the knock sensor. I had been burning 87 octane in the car for about 2000 miles. He reset and cleared the check engine and said not to worry about it but it came on again 800 miles later. I have been burning 93 octane since he reset it. I reset the ECU myself and it cleared the light again. My question is Am I spinning my wheels or do you think it might take time for the 93 octane to get things back to normal? Did the 87 octane possibly cause this? The car gets 27 miles to the gallon and is performing well even with check engine light on. Any suggestions or comments?

What octane you use does not protect the knock sensor from going bad. The knock sensor code does not indicate not using the right octane, it indicates the knock sensor needs to be replaced

It is notorious for going bad in our cars, and speaking of it I will have to replace mine soon as well. It cant do any wrong to your car, thats for sure. If you wanna know how to do it, go to www.motorvate.ca, he has a write-up on it.

Replace the KS ... you will soon notice that it will get slower and slower and slower, untill the kids walking down the sidewalk are leaving you and making you eat their shoe rubber. I do like 0-60 right now in about 80 second. LOL I have put it off and put it off again, and it just gets horrible. Easy fix ... well worth it to get all the power back. lol

Used Knock Sensor from a fellow .org member: $50
Cost to have a mechanic put the KS on for me: $40
Having all the power in my baby back: Priceless.

When mine was bad, I noticed after clearing the codes power improved
for a short while, if your power sucks try clearing codes every now and
then until you replace the KS.
