I have 235-45-17's. It should not affect your speedo. YOur overall circumference is less than 1% off the stock. I have 98 SE and it is fine. The only thing is that 7 inch wide rim is a bit narrow for 235-45s. If you go to tirerack.com you will find that the minimum width for 235-45s is 7.5 inches. It will still work but you will get a bulged side wall.

speedo

the wheel width will not affect your speedometer... only yhe overall diameter will. and 235-45-17 is the closest to stock size you can get with 17s. i am running the same size tire on same size rim, it is a bit too narrow, but i decided to save weight, and as an added bonus the wider tire on narrower wheel gives a little curb protection. to the other guy, 17x8 inch wheel is fine too.

What do you mean by a bulged side wall? Is it noticeable?

Thanks!

17x7 should have 225/45/17 at most

I do not think that it is ok to put 235/45/17 on a 7 wide rim if it is 7.5 than 235 would be perfect but since your rim is only 7 wide than 225 is what you should have

Rims

I talked to the guy from wheel warehouse today and he said the 235's w/ the 7" rim is fine, there would be no problem the only thing he said was that if i planned on lowering the car then i should go w/ 225

That guy is wrong about needing 225s to lower the car. Just ask the hundreds of people on here that have 235s with a lowered suspension.

Here is my car with 235-45-17s lowered about 1.5" with H&R/Konis. As you can see no rubing...no problems

TrueNorth, how is your ride with H&R/Koni combo? How much stiffer/rougher of a ride than the previous SE setup? I'm leaning toward either H&R/Koni or H&R/Tokico but not sure which yet.

Enduro,
I ran into the same dilema last year when I was upgrading my ride.... I chose Koni 'cause of the reported quick softening with Tokicos so it had to be Konis eventhough it is the most expensive one out there, but with the adjustable Konis you can make it really soft, but you don't want to go there 'cause your car would be all over the road. I have my set to 1.5 turns from soft and is very acceptable. The 45 series tire is a bit stiffer than I wanted, when my Khumos wears out I'll try the 225-50-17s. If you stick with 7.5" wide rims you can choose either 235s or 225s. Did you ever notice why not too many OEM tires comes in 45 series? The reason is 'cause not everyone likes the stiff ride. Before I went with the 17s I had the OE 215-55-16 RSAs and the ride was very acceptable with the H&R/Konis. Hope my 2 cents helps.

Thanks TrueNorth...very helpful info on the spring/struts setup. This is off topic but I have two more questions after seeing your sig. First is which paint did u use for the mud flap cause it matched quite well with the car. Second is the bug deflector that you have, is it removable? Do you have to drill any holes? Thanks!

Well, All Canadian Maximas came with colour matching mud flaps, So it is factory painted. As for the bug deflector, it is removable, there are I believe four to six holes drilled behind the hood on the second hood skin so you won't even notice it from the outside. It has served its purpose not so much deflecting bugs but stone chips
