Is this a sign of my tranny failing on me?

Often times, I can't get the car in reverse, it'll just shift right to the left of reverse, not letting me shift into it. This can't be normal can it? I just have to wait a bit, glide through some gears, and it'll let me go in reverse after that.

Should I be worried about this?

Thanks,
Dan

I dont think you have to be worried this happens to a lot of us, but trying other gears then reverse again works fine.

Now if this occurs on a daily basis or more than that, then there might be cause for some concern.

reverse is hard to get into in a lot of cars. Just play with the shifter till it goes

Reverse has a locking mechanism that is a fail safe system. there is a lil lever that will retract once you "reset" your tranny(putting into 2nd, 1st,) the lever is there so that while your drive you cant put it into reverse, try rolling backwards and putting it to reverse, you will hear a grinding noise, its just a safety feature that makes our lives harder, but a lil safer
