Altima LSD tranny in a Max??
Altima LSD tranny in a Max??
I was in search for the LSD tranny for the max using part number " RS5F50V "
when I diid a search in yahoo and ended up at this site.
http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...rive_axles.htm
looking at the 97-05 Manual Transaxle Altimas they have open diff tranny's and a LSD tranny it has the same part code as the Max LSD tranny. Where these trannies shared therefore able to use a altima LSD tranny in a max? its very hard to find a LSD tranny for a Max but if the altima one will work too, then that might increase the chances of finding a tranny.
thanks

I have a Canadian maxima which came stock from the factory with VLSD.
The VLSD is certainly not a performance mod which would help you to accelerate faster out of the corners like a quaife or the HLSD used in the new maxes.
The viscous coupling used can only support a relatively small torque differential between the drive axles.
If you have one tire on ice and the other is on snow, you will still sit there and spin.
The only reason I can think of why the Canadian fourth gens got VLSD and the US version didn't is that a much larger percentage of our population lives in areas with significant snowfall.
Living in Georgia, you probably don't have to worry about this.

You make a valid statement and I agree here in the south I probably wouldnt need and LSD around here since GA doesnt see heavy heavy snow fall, but I guess I'm preparing myself and the Max for when I move (after I graduate soon) and there is a possibility I may end up with a job back home in Toronto, or on the west or up north so the VLSD may not be that useful in GA but if I move to somewhere where they have a lot of snow fall then the VLSD tranny would come in handy, and I know the Max will be my daily driver for a while.
That is why I am in search for a good VLSD tranny, as my tranny seems to be failing if a VLSD tranny will be about the same price as a used Open diff then why not have the VLSD?
does anyone know if the 97-05 altima and MAx share the same trannies?
