Just becuase a Bentley has it doesn't mean it isn't pointless.

Let's see, starting my Maxima:
1) insert key with right hand
2) turn key with right hand

Starting a Bentley:
1) insert key with right hand
2) turn key with right hand
3) push button with LEFT hand

How is that better? I have to do another step and use another hand to get things moving.

My opinion of why bentlys have it: Bettntlys have it on two different circuits leading into a brain. It prevents you from just hotwiring the wires under the key panel. Because at the same time you would need to trip the circuit on the other side of the steering wheel.

Flamed? No. When you have a push button start, there's no need to insert a key. You actually have like a wallet sized credit card, and keep it in your wallet. When you get in the car, it automatically picks up the signal from the card, then you just push the button and it starts. So basically, you hop in, push the button and go.

Just becuase a Bentley has it doesn't mean it isn't pointless.
Soooo, what's your point exactly? I simply stated that they do have them. I never once mentioned that since Bentley's have them, that they aren't pointless. I could care less on what a Bentley has and whether it's of any importance or not.

Two words:

Pointless rice.
You said "Pointless rice" Therefore, my remark was simply put that Bentley's and Benzes have them, so how exactly would you consider that option "rice"?

IMO, that's as far away from "rice" as you can get. You show me a Civic with a credit card key, with a kid that can hop in and push a button and go.

I never heard of no put the key in, turn it then push the button sh*t. Now, THAT to me sounds like "rice" because that's some whack, wanna-be bootleg sh*t.

Ok but won't you have to put in the key, turn it, and then push the button for it to work? That's why everyone was saying it's rice.

OK, these are two different things. The push button start in the FAQs is just a button connected to your ignition wire. You have to turn the key and then push the button to get it to start. The credit card thing is a lil more complicated and a lot more expencive, but should be doable in our cars with a lot of work.

I think either one is a really cool toy

well i never heard of this but...

if AFTER you do the mod and you turn the key the car wont turn on????? ONLY after the button is pressed it will start?????? if so this is not very pointless as maybe it will help ppl who leave there keys in the car to go in gas stations, bk, etc and leave keys in car, jsut hide that button

OK you can either disable it completely or you dont have to. Its more for looks IMO. I dont think its rice maybe a little but i like it. There are far worse forms of rice then a botton. You will need a relay though. I did it to mine and i like it... but again its more for looks.

Alright...it's not hard to do. The ignition cylinder under the steering column must have one wire that triggers the starter. Just cut that wire and wire the button in series of that circuit if you only want it to start with button. Wire in parallel if you want to able to use the key and the button to start. To find out what wire, just use a multimeter or a simple test light. I'm too lazy to dig into the FSM to find the wire color for you.

still down for that credit card shyt....but u dont have it?.....its like u brought the credit card thing up as a defense to why push button isnt rice....someone said push button is dumb and rice because its more steps to start the car....and ure defense was the credit card sensor thing???? why? u dont have it...i dont get it.....

and i dont think its rice BTW, either one is fine with me, but now u got me interested in the sensor thing.....

and this mod BETTER be for just looks, cuz if u think about it...if turning ure key 5mm further to start the car is too much work for u, just kill ureself......BUT as i said, i like the looks, its different....im more into the sensor idea u brought up out of nowhere though....

It would look sweet and I guess If your bored of the max and want to change it up to be different, even if its starting it differently than thats all good... A illuminated start button might look nice... especially for you TJMax, with those blue LED interior lights, a Blue start button would be a nice addition... ohh and do we have to scrap up the definition of RICE again... I think it was researched recently? Something about a mod that make your car look fast but not accually make it fast? (Dont quote me) examples: Stick on vents for the fenders? Supersize wings when your car cant break 85 MPH? Light up muffler tips that are as wide as a coffee can but the oulets only 1 3/4" wide, Or any "hooked-up" Civic... LOL

aslo a good point (matching my blue interior), if i can get that sensor thing id be wit it...my friends can knock sense into me sometimes and they'll say ure max is hot, but wuts the point of that start button if u have to put the key in and turn anyway, lol...and i agree wit rice....ppl dont know wtf rice means sometimes...or they know wut it means but they'll equate it with the world "ugly", or "tacky"....problem with this has always been, if YOU dont like how something looks, u impose YOUR idea on someone else by calling it rice....but what can u do, this has been going on for years on the org....ah well!!!

I might be talking straight out of my @ss, but instead of the credit card thing how about using your keyless entry remote. Like using some kind of relay for when you hit the unlock button on the remote it turns the car to run then when you get in you press the start button for 1 sec and then your car is started and ready to drive. Then when you get out hit lock on the remote and it turns the car off.

that sounds pretty interesting, so when u autostart, u get in press the button and now u can drive the car without it cutting off or using the key? that would be hot...cuz if u think about it, u wouldnt need ure key ever, youd just be carrying around ure alarm remote....ha ha, thats crazy

electricians on the org. Come up with something creative to make this happen. We need new interior mods. And rice is just a dumb term IMHO. Everyone has a different opinion about what it is.

Let's be honest. We drive Maximas....made in Japan

very nicely put. and for my $.02 on this mod- if you want to do it go ahead, and if it makes you happy even better. of course a push button start isnt nessasarily practical but it is different, and it makes you stand out and thats why many people will get it. also member when the S2000 first came out and it had a push button start? well no one thought that was rice, in fact everyone i talked to thought it was pretty sweet and a nice touch to make that car stand out among the rest. and i know many S2000 owners and they all love it, its the first thing they mention when they talk about their car, and i have never heard one say a negative comment about it. so whats wrong with putting something on your car that makes you happy?
