My buddy just got his 2K Solara done with 5% black as death. Already complains that the interior (back seat) is damn dark and is absolutely impossible to see out of at night in dark parking lots while backing up. Claims he may as well break the little dimming lever off his rear view window. I've got a tint appt next Thurs. and I'm thinking 20-25% is good enough; nice a dark enough without sacrificing visibility. My Max is white, so if any of you have tint I'd appreciate your personal input, and urls to photos if ya got 'em. Thanks all.

I got 18% on my rear windows..

You can still see out the windows fine at night.

Make sure you go to a reputable place...when I got mine done I went for the lowest price and paid by having to go back 3 times till they got it right.(Still not right..me too fed up to go back)

I believe i have 35% all around. They provide enough shade for me and at night, you can't really see in. Cops won't harrass you for something this light. It looks good and does its job. It's also really easy to see out of. No complaints from me, even parking at night is easy.

30% front and 20% back which is the legal limit in Indiana. It looks sweet on my black car. People can't see in at night and they can hardly see me in the day unless it's super sunny.

I have 35% all around. IMO it's too light for the day time. People can still see in. If I had to do it all over again. I would go w/ 25%. I think my even 35% is illegal in CT. But oh well....

Tint Me.

My car is being tinted as I write. I went for Solarguard Quantum 35% (legal limit in MD) all around. The tint is not that dark ( I have a black car - grey interior ) but I liked the way it looked on two trucks (black and silver -both with grey interior) in the parking lot.

Check out http://www.autowindowtintings.com for information.

35% is not dark enough!!

It's an improvement over nothing but I would still go for a 20 to 25% rear window and 30 to 35% on the driver and passenger windows. Rear window has the greatest area of sunlight protrusion. Also looks better. Not to dark not to light. Functional.. And if you live where police check for that type of thing it they typically check your side windows. Typically. 30 to 35% is the maximum in many states and it sucks but I realize where they are coming from.
If it's lower than that% it's anywhere from $150 to $200 fine. Good luck!!

I agree

35% is not enough but it's legal here in Mass. My back window and rear doors are 20%, front doors are 35%. In my next car I am going 20% all around. BUT, if you have dark interior it makes it a little darker. And, also the lighter your car is, the darker the tint looks against the paint.

MAKE SURE THE PLACE YOU ARE GOING WILL DO THE BACK WINDOW IN ONE PIECE !!!!!! IF NOT GO SOMEWHERE THAT WILL...IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD AND GOOD SHOPS WILL BE ABLE TO DO IT IN ONE PIECE.

I agree with VQ
Do 20 on the back window and 35 or 20 on sides. The back window will make sides look darker than they really are because of the slant of the back window letting in more light.

Good luck

If you are around HOuston I now a tinter with 17 years experience and is very reasonable

Some states it's not even legal at all.

I live in Kansas, about 30miles from Missouri state line. It's legal in KS all around 35%. However in MO, it is not legal to have it on the driver and passenger side door windows at all. It is ok on the rear doors and rear glass. They do ticket for this, even out of towners. So beware through MO. I have gotten a ticket for it before, $50. Tried to take it to court, thinking they would drop it because I lived in KS and my car was registered there as well. The judge didn't drop it, he said, if your in our state, you must follow our laws. He even asked if the car was there at the court date, well it just happened that I rode with a friend to the court date. He said that if it were there, he'd have it impounded. Another friend of mine, got pulled over for it too, the police made him remove the film on the spot, or the car would be impounded and him cited.

Kinda on the same topic..

Where I live in B.C. Canada you can have your back windows painted black if you wanted to..but having anything on your front is illegal. This a.m. on my way home I got pulled over for having a tinted licence plate cover...the cop was really nice but told me it was illegal..I asked why they can sell them..he said...(while tapping on my front window which has 50% tint that is noticeable at night) "It's kinda like having your front windows tinted, I think it looks nice, shops will do it for you, but it is illegal." Strange.....nice guy, made me take my tinted plate off...but said nothing of my front tinted windows which, like I said, altho barely noticeable during the day, it's pretty obvious at night.

30% on the front side windows (to be legal), 5% on the rear side windows and rear. I love it! You can't even really notice the difference in it.

Your Maxima (as well as mine) is pre-tinted at factory.
Whatever tint you pick, spread it against the window to see how it looks like first.

speaking of tint

I know I might be in the wrong forum but nobody barely goes to the second gen forum. So I saw this one about tint. I have a Question. OK I wold like to tint my sunroof darker mine is kinda light compared to the newer models. I bought 35% bronze mirror tint from autozone for it. I called a local tint shop and I asked If I could tint my moonroof. I told them the tint that I have and they said that I couldnt tint the glass of the sun roof because it will shatter after the sun has been beaming on it for a while. I would liek to know is this true or is it a load of ****? It didnt sound logical I mean why did the factory tint the moon roof then, if it shatters. PLease help me out !

I've had 5% tint on my sunroof...

for a couple of months now.. a little too dark IMHO but can't see why you'd have any probs with it.

I have 15% mirror tint on my sunroof and its fine. There shouldn't be any prob>

The set-up on my car
Rear window and rear sides= Neutral 35% (noticeable)
Front side windows= neutral 50% (hardly noticable)
Front windshild= neutral 70% (virtual invisible)
Sunroof= Silver mirror 15% (one way reflective)

I used 3M Scotchtint since their neutral film has a nice color and lifetime warranty.
