Engine swap?

I was just wondering if the skyline RB26DETT engine for the R34 (awd) would fit into the engine bay of a Maxima?

I know this swap would involve probrobly way to much work for what it's worth, and it would involve swapping out the entire drive train, front/rear axils, etc, and somehow making it all fit.

This is just a hypothetical question, and i'm just curious as to whether it is possible or not.

The concept of an awd maxima (similar to the g35x) seems interesting to me, however, i have no clue if it is possible.

sorry if this is a repost, but i haven't been on the site for a while, and as i remember the search function never worked for me.

thanks, jay

thanks mzmtg,

does anyone happen to have a link to this previous post, if so that would be great.

i assume that the previous time this was posted about, it was the same sort of question, and that no one has actually attempted this swap. But i wouldn't mind reading it anyways.

There's nothing useful that has been discussed. Just a bunch of people arguing about how it wont work. Then a few people stating the fact that, if you have enough money, anything is possible.

if you got the money to do all that work...why not just buy a skyline R32 vspec gtr and have the engine already and be really unique cuz how many guys can say they acutally own a skyline...only a select few.

The only reason i ask is; i would like an AWD for the winter, and i was thinking about an audi 1.8t quattro or something along those lines. Now, i would much rather have a maxima instead, if it were AWD. So because i already have a maxima, that isn't worth too much as a trade in, due to high kilometers, if it were not too hard and overly expencive (which obviously it would be) to add a new engine, tranny, axils, and etc. Then in my oppinion it would be worth the 10 k cost of upgrading to an Audi or something like that.
That's just my logic, and i know it's not as black and white as that, but it's fun to think about.

here's a thought, if your thinking about dumping all that $$$ into a car just so you can get awd, may i reccomend you look into a wrx or the MR Evo8, those are two badass (legal in america) AWD cars.

It all depends on how much money would it actually cost?
To get an evo or WRX, that's like a $ 25-30 k investment (CDN) on top of the money for my car, and that will involve, taxes and insurance increases. Plus i personally wouldn't want either of those car, just not my thing. I would personally pick up an S4 or something like that for the same price, if i had the money. So theoretically if the price of all those R34 parts were around $ 10-12 k, then maybe it would be worth it. (assuming the install is not as bad as everyone would imagine)

Big Bucks for actual Skyline + 15-25,000$ to motorex + the highest insurance imaginable = Skyline in your driveway

Then you have to think about what the prices are gonna be like on parts when things start to break, I can't even imagine how insane the cost would be

Just my .02\
do what you want

First off, i think that $ 15-20 k for the skyline was JUST for the importers, you have to add the price of the skyline on top of that. And also, if you have the ability to install the engine, and do all that other stuff, i'm sure you'll be able to fix anything that goes wrong. But if you don't know how to, then you'll be screwed if anything goes wrong.

i don't think your grasping what would have to be done to make a maxima into an AWD car. I would not be an install, it would be a complete dismantle of the maxima, Custom everything. The only thing left would be the body of the maxima.

Just install the H22A in the maxima, there is plenty of room for it so you can turbo it.

3.5 hybrid check the all motor forum. It won't get you AWD but you can brag about having a 350z engine in your car instead of bragging about 2 gazillion horses from 8990 to 9000 RPM and 2 pounds of torque with your hypothetical V-tec.

our car has room for 2 honda motors so you could make it awd. just face one for frontwheed drive, and face the other one longway so you have rwd, then you have 4wd!

Alright, alright...

Well for starters, I think a Ferrari V12 could potentially fit, I mean, why wouldn't it? Skip all this RB and Honda BS...Ferrari all the way...Ferrari ownz j00! Haven't you guys seen the latest issue of Honda Motoring? There's a guide on there on how to swap a V10 from an M1A1 Abrams into your CRX.
