Accleration goes down when on for a while

I noticed when I have had my car on for a while it loses a good amount of power. I know when the car is cold it is faster but I mean like after like 20 to 30 mins it loser power. it just doesn't seem as fast. How come this happens? I have heard of this from other maxima owner's to.

same deal here....depends on weather though....I think there is some heak soak going on....I wonder if 2000+ maximas have this issue as they have composite intake manifolds.....it would be interesting to see!!

your engine runs better when hot. the hotter the engine the better it will run around 210 degrees is normal. the power you feel is the transmission not warmed up. do not let your engine idle to warm up, that is was causes 90% of wear. just drive normally after you start up your engine. when your engine reaches operation temperature, your thermastat will open up and let the coolant flow through the radiator to cool it down.

I thought more power when cold, is due to the oil being cold/thicker. Thicker motor oil increases compression....more of a seal on the piston rings.

An engine does combust fuel better at hotter temperatures (195-210), because fuel burns better when it's hotter. And of course, it's never recommended you race your car when it's cold....this is uber bad.

I think I am going to get a oil cooler. You don't want your motor running hot when racing. You want it running cool.

according to our manuals, nissan suggests letting the car idle 30-60 seconds on a very cold start...like over night before driving....and not going wot or high rpms till fully warmed up...so I think it is okay to idle warm up...just not more than 60seconds...

I believe most of the problems of slowing down is heat soak related then...oil cooler should do it and maybe the nismo thermostat or something...

an oil cooler will ruin your engine unless your have a turbo or supercharger. remember, oil lube's and takes away heat from your engine. if your oil is too cold, your engine will be over cooled, and not run well. its like getting a 3" exhaust when you have a NA car.
