LED ARE Not Bright Help!
k did my gauges with LEDs 10,000mcd ultra bright bought them at a local electronics store on long island called amp electronics guys was very nice but are there better qaulity LED's and crappy qaulity im new to doing LED's so im not sure if a LED is just a LED or if there are better makes and brands i used 470hms resistors and the needles are not even all the way lite up!? and the gauge faces (SE White) and lightly lite up to im puzzled any body can help me out here
here are some pics there dissappointing i know

Wow man, that IS really dull...
I've had great experience with superbrightleds.com, I bought their blue 4-LED per bulb 194s and I think they look sweet, nice and bright! I did a simple plug-and-play for my 96 though, I don't know if you'll have the same results with all the crap you have to do with your 98...
Hopefully you didn't close everything back up on the gauge because it's a b!tch to get everything out again, but you probably knew that...

Do you think the resistor is too big. For mine I calculated 390 ohm resistors, but usually you can vary quite abit without seeing too much of a difference. Are the gauges lit at all, I can't tell from the pics. It could be possible that you didn't break the barrier voltage of the LEDs (meaning the resistance is too high and the LEDs didn't light up)
Try sanding the led's on all sides to get maximum brightness. When using the leds as replacement bulbs, you're supposed to sand them to allow light to emit from all sides instead of only the top tip. If this solves your problem, you can save yourself some money on getting new bulbs
idk i used 470ohms and i trying to point them at the middle of the needle the best i possibly could but it seems like its jut not a strong enough to light up the whole needle not to mention the gauge faces cause like the end of my needles arent even bright the only part of my needles that are simi bright are the beginning part and the faces of the gauges and very very dimmly lite up what is the standard veiwing angle for LED lights cause i just bought some new LED's off of ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT
guy had great feedback so i bought 15 LED's from him

The ohms on the resistor is fine.
Did you test the LED's with the resistor to see how bright they were before you put them in ? If they are 10,000 mcd they should be ridiculously bright... much brighter than in your picture.
These pictured here are 4,000 mcd white, yours should be tons brighter.

something is definitly not wired correctly...
do your gauges use 194 bulbs? if they do go to: www.superbrightleds.com and buy 5 of the 194 bulbs, each will have 6mini LEDS(the 9-led one will not fit) on them and will do the job perfect. My cluster resembles the new VWs with that nice dark blue look. If you dont have those they also sell the mini gauge cluster bulbs too that just replace the stock mini bulbs.

ure saying his leds are super dull because he didnt sand em down? leds will emit more light than that if u dont sand em...i may not know the solution to this problem, but i know THAT isnt it at all.....
idk mybe there just crappy LED's is there such thing as a crappy LED?? i ordered thoughs ones from ebay ill put them in and see how they work out ill snap some pics if they come out good

your sort of right but wrong .. sanding them down will make the light emit in several directions.. werhe as non sanded they are bright from a direct overhead view of the diode...
220 ohms is probbaly enough that is what ia m using for all thw switches i am using the lower ohms and less the watt ratting liek say 1/4 versus 1/2 watt the 1/4 220 will be brighteri tested a bunch of ressister tell i found out.
so check teh watt rating

Most likely the LED is a bust. Get the ones from a reputable ebayer or check out the group deal in my sig. I use 4-5k LEDs and they give off a nice white. I just helped out a fellow forumer redo his whole interior and it came out bangin'. Maybe I can take a look at them when I'm free.

you should post a picture on the thread so that everyone can see it, itll probalby attract more people. im defiantely interested
which 194 are you using because some can spread out light pretty well.
