Actually - if you drive in reverse, it rolls back.

Put it up on jackstands, put it in reverse, and brick the gas pedal.

A while back, I bought a new SE gauge cluster with 50,000 more miles on it than my car actually had, and I wanted to roll back the odometer to my current mileage, but the numbers were stuck (it's analog)...
I called the dealership and they told me they could only legally roll them forward, but oh well, it makes no difference to me what numbers are on the odometer...

 

if you're looking to get it done because you bought a new cluster and to set it to your mileage, i apologize for being harsh. if not, my remarks still stand.


call around a few mechanics if you have the cluster out of the car if it's a new/replacement one for you and explain the situation and maybe someone can do it.

 

Its actually a FEDERAL CRIME to roll back your odometer. Digital is possible although I'm not sure... What most people do is just disconnect the speedo cable on their car so it doesnt calculate all the mileage they put into it.

On analog clusters you can use a drill bit and put it in reverse and watch the numbers go down

 

i want to just turn it back cuz my car has 103k on it and the gage that i bought has 165k on it so just wanted to match it up with my cars miles

 

and selling it with 103k so you can get more money for it?

lol b.s. na for reaL TO roll back the gauge, you have to cut the wire {i thnk speed sensor?] thats from the cluster to the tranny. O ONE THING ONCE YOU CUT THAT WIRE YOUR ODOMETER WILLL ROLL BACK, BUT THERES A CATFCH, YOUR CAR WOULD NOT START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually the ecu keeps track of the miles as well. you can pull it off on a analog... but the drill bit way takes for ever. to roll back a thousand miles it would take like a couple of hours. no joke, i tried it on a 89 sentran for my friends dad and gave up after 2 minutes with the drill. on a analog u want to take apart the numbers and move them manually.

what for? this is a perfect example of Odometer Fraud for those of us who want to buy a used car.

 

dont mess with it unless you have a backup plan, i know someoen who unplugged it and it make sthe circuit for the charging system incomplete, in other words itll eat your battery til the car stops running, you have to reconnect the gauge then (or fix it in your case if it goes bad)
